Some of you might say I’ve “made it”
I’m early 40s net worth $2.5 million
2 million made from investments
But we all know that’s not really “rich’
Not trying to say I am. Pretty regular guy,
Had massive ups and downs in my life.
Been on these boards 12 months.
I guess a lot of you will say I’m an old fag .
Come from working class family that struggled ( was given nothing)
I see a lot of posts from anons despairing their financial situation.
Maybe I can give some insights . AMA
Main thing I notice is a lot of anons impatient to “make it “ overnight. I think that’s always a long shot that involves massive luck.

2.5m is not too bad. If BTC takes off again you could be at 5m easily. Did you buy a mcmansion?

I worked my ass off to get a job as sales coordinator in raw materials importing business. That took me 5 years to get in. Very low starting salary.
Then worked my ass off to get promotions then at 26 left to start own similar business with boss using the contacts developed in that industry.
Then invested . After reading nearly every recommended serious investment book I could find. I only invested in markets that had recently bottomed. Shares / property/ bonds. And sold and took profits when I saw them hyped or over bought.
By age 29 was still 10k in debt .

Hi Boomer,

Thank you for cross-posting your weekly newspaper advice column to the internet world wide website for Indian Needful Scamming known as 4chan. Today I am having an issue with consistency of mood - it gives me trouble establishing a long-term upward trajectory in life despite having found a satisfying career. Do you have any advice based on the people you've seen go up and down in life? How do they eventually stabilize? My inclination is to find some kind of flexible work from home, but I also don't want to risk becoming a shut-in, or lose my savings trying to make it work. Looking forward to your thoughtful input.

I'm not too manic about my investments, I do an okay job of leaving those where I think they should be.

Sincerely,

Man With A Mood

Imagine being this bad at business and finance to only be a million when you are in your 40s. If you havent started you first business by 30 you are never going to make it.

OP could have just taken his boomer salary and put it in the spy over 30 years.

Haha , touché good sir. Your most likely far wealthier.
If not a LARP I have been in exactly this position a few times. Although I shit my pants at first , I got into mountain biking / motorcycle track biking , powerlifting and surfing. The sense of fulfilment in confronting fear was so rewarding and I met chicks I didn’t have to pay to fuck.

Yes I do. But the Fed and other central banks keep doing QE and lowering “real” interest rates to negative. the market could well keep going up but it’s 10 years now (longest ever) and 400% vs GDP growth over same time period of about 30% max.
I’m out of stocks for time being

Yes the Ben Graham’s the intelligent investor. Why (I screen capped it )Buffetts books . Jim Rogers books . The major Insight I got from these is that the market RARELY prices an asset fairly. Research tells you if it’s undervalued or overvalued and you can profit either way
