first of all, mining difficulty only adjusts ever 2016 blocks. so if the price tanks at the start of the cycle and miners are forced to capitulate, thought shit for the rest of the miners cause the difficulty wont adjust for another 2000 blocks or so.
high value requires high security which requires high hashrates. as hashrates drop the chances of a 51% attack increase and the trust in the network decreases. big holder might not feel so confortable anymore with their position and start selling.
and dont forget that bitcoin only works because miners are incentivized monetarily to be honest. if there's no monetary incentive then they wont give 2 shits about any of you or the value of the network as a whole.
