Being told to do so is illegal in most of the developed world. If you're contracted 40 hours a week. Only do 40 hours a week. However...

If your contracted 40 hours are within a specific time frame defined by management, then that is what you are expected, by contract, to do.

Doing 40 hours in 4 days when you're asked to work them over Mon - Fri is retarded. What did you expect? A pat on the back? You operate within the teams schedule. Not yours.
