A second person's costs (a wife in this case) doesn't increase overall costs as much due to living together, assume $36,000. The kicker the $24,000 already has entertainment budgeted in. So likewise $36,000 should have it budgeted as well. They should have at least $30,000 per year left over. Let's say they make a decent sized worth of donations in a year, $2,500. That's still $27,500 left over per year OR $825,000 total.

Theoretically you should be able to withdrawal 3-4% indefinitely as it should outgrow that if properly managed.
