I think democracy sucks. mainly because of the hero idea.
Letting everyone being equals with the current voting system.
we get a representation of the failing average/majority on power.
the power then help grow the failing average/majority, which is also what they demand
and you get into this reinforcing loop.
meanwhile, it the heroes coming from the bottom that powers the economy
there is weak incentives for the good economic forces coming for the heroes, because they are shunned by the demand of bad economic forces that grows the failing average/majority
hence is the emergence of the dystopia

Democracy turns political matters into a popularity contest.
Good luck overthrowing democracy or recommending alternatives to it in countries where its already established, though. You'd have easier luck trying to milk a rock.
