They were very good to me. My dad worked extra hours so we are able to live in a house. He paid for my sports clubs, we had great times on the weekends and he overall cared very much. My mother always cooked for me and my siblings and did the houseworks. I am very proud of my parents and 10% of my savings are for their old age. The most important thing for me is they can live in decency and can rely on me when they are old.

My parents were toxic assholes. My father left when I was 2 to start another family with a hooters waitress and my mother married a retarded religious zealot who was emotionally abusive. For those reasons I'll never really respect my parents.

My grandparents on the other hand, always made sure I had a good education growing up and provided the basic things that middle class people should give to their kids. They were the only people who ever really looked out for me and I'll do whatever it takes to make sure they're taken care of when they cannot take care of themselves one day.

I've wrestled with that question before. Back when I was a good Christian boy I thought I owed them everything.
