When was there a rollback? If you're talking about the DAO hack, contract code was changed to match what the network thought was the intended functionality but there wasn't a rollback of transactions.

>> No.15980764

>>15980734
The chain was rolled back to a day before the DAO creation to restore the stolen ETH.

>> No.15980777

>>15980764
The funds were still locked up in a contract, so the hard fork only changed the DAO code.

>> No.15980835

>the hard fork only changed the DAO code.
That doesn't make any sense. This was an ETH smart contract.

The chain was forked, and the new ("official") chain was reverted to the pre-DAO state, returning the stolen ETH.
The propaganda made great efforts to avoid using the word "rollback", but that's what happened.

Not to mention the fact that my post here: >>15980609

There was a time limit before the ETH could be transferred to another account. The hard fork changed the contract code to prevent this before it happened.

>>15980842
Your post implies that this is a thing that's known to happen in Ethereum.

And to do that, the system had to be reverted to a time and state when setting up the smart contract was still possible.

>Your post implies that this is a thing that's known to happen in Ethereum.
It implies that Vitalik is a known authoritarian.
Pic related.

>> No.15981138

>>15980922
The system was not reverted, the hard fork literally changed the state, putting the ETH into a new contract.

>> No.15981165

>>15981138
>the hard fork literally changed the state
... returning the state to a state where the contract was still modifiable; i.e. before the DAO was set up.

>> No.15981203

and that is how ethereum classic was born.

>> No.15981273

>>15981165
I think we're arguing past each other, my point is the hard fork was contained to just fixing the DAO. It's not like the chain was rolled back, undoing transactions. And it was only possible because the ETH was locked up, giving the network time to come to a consensus about what the state of that contract should be. I don't think you can call that a rollback.
