15928309 No.15928309 [Reply] [Original]

It seems to me that over the last month or two, there has been a growing minority of /biz/ that has been breaking the traditional mould of this board. They are starting to see crypto for what it really is, a slot machine for degenerate gamblers, and are beginning to look for alternative investments. They see the coming economic crisis on the horizon, and they are looking for a safe place to keep their money. They are reverting to REAL money, and the centuries of proof to back up their decision. And I think this board is just a microcosm of what we are going to see over the next ~5 years. Something truly catastrophic is going to happen in the world economy and we are going to have to bootstrap a new system. People are going to buy assets that truly have value. Once again, /biz/ is ahead of the curve on this. Just wait and see. This board will shift from a crypto board, to a full blown precious metals board in the next few years. Just wait and see.

My shitcoin investment is at a very comfortable 10x on initial in just the last year. If you had bought the decade low of gold back in 2015, you would currently be looking at a handsome 1.5x return. The decimal is not a typo; that's one point five.

The value proposition of the Bitcoin network is that it is a permissionless, decentralized payments network that has units of account known as bitcoins. You'll probably argue that bitcoins have "inherent" value because they are the perfect form of money because they are fungible, durable, divisible... yadda yadda yadda. But what you don't understand is that the "inherent value" meme is just that... a meme. Even for PMs. There is only such thing as recognized value. And money is a emergent technology that is built off of this "recognized value" over many years/decades/centuries. It's extremely hard to just decree a money and get people to recognize it as such unless you have the power of the state. Bitcoiners always want to talk about theoretical value proposition of BTC, and completely ignore the reality. If you've ever listened to Marty Bent on Tales From the Crypt, he always talks about how his biggest fear for Bitcoin is that people just won't care enough... And I don't think he's concerned enough about that desu. People will rush to gold and silver, because it has historical precedent of working. Also, explain to me how the network will work when bitcoins become so fractionalized that it's impossible to move UTXOs because they are worth less than transaction fees? "Ah but bitcoin is a SAVINGS technology, not a PAYMENTS technology" you'll say. Well, what happens when you actual have to use those savings for something? Saving is just future spending, that money has to move at some point.

>Hasn't read up on atomic swaps
Okay. Explain to me how atomic swaps solve scaling issues. I have only heard of them in the context of cross-chain trades.

>Wants to stick to the fed and banks cucking your life
No, that's why you buy silver and gold. You're seething so hard that you're strawman-ing.

>Bitcoin is not theoretical
>Designed a decade ago and was so good at it's job literally became the most valuable currency and has had entire infrastructure now built to facilitate it's use
>People still acting like it's a scam
I said the value proposition was theoretical, not Bitcoin itself. All propositions are theoretical. Bitcoin is the 37th most valuable currency by market capitalization. It's not a scam, but that doesn't mean it's a viable alternative to our current system.

>Nigs break into house and steal your rocks

Buy a gun, defend your rocks. Don't be a pussy anon.

>currency that will work after the singularity

Sorry, but I think things will collapse well before then. Technology has made our societies more volatile, and a lot will be burnt to the ground before this can happen.

>Divisible
>Non inflationary

Yeah I think you're right. I came here in 2017 before the bullrun, and crypto appears to be mostly milked dry at this point. But I also think you are seeing people starting to understand PMs a little bit better as safe haven assets. That's ultimately how I got here. The US financial system is looking more and more ill by the day and I'm trying to not get burnt when things go south. BTC is fine, and I understand why it's valued, but I think you'll see a lot of capital flight away from it instead of toward it if things get bad enough. You're ultimately at the mercy of the miners keeping the hashpower high enough and you're also at the mercy of governments keeping internet infrastructure in place to keep the Bitcoin network from dying of fragmenting. It seems that PMs are the best value proposition right now no matter how you look at it.
