I know several people working in banking, Consultancy and IT. When I asked them how long they would last without a job they said 3-6 months. Like wtf? Where does all that money go to?

In a free market, the economy is as efficient as money is circulating so over time, unless you're in the top 0.1% in a western country, which is like 0.001% in the world, there's always "good" ways to spend because even if you have a raise, you can always have a better house, better car, travel more, change house, buy technology, eat out and do other things that quickly spend the money and normalfags love that.

The only way to save and be completely safe against things like losing your job is live below your means but not everyone thinks like that

IT guy here. When I had no gf, I saved the half of my monthly income and still lived a very good life.
Now I live in a bigger flat with her (= more expensive despite splitting the rent) and had to burn a shit ton of money for furniture over the last months (she did so as well, but still: When I lived alone second hand Ikea furniture was fine for me). My last raise goes directly into the company pension scheme, to avoid spending more money on useless shit. The next step will be etf saving plans, so I dont even think about spending money for useless shit.

I dont spend a lot money to buy things for my gf, but having a gf made my lifestyle way more expensive.

tl;dr women make you spend more money and impede saving money.

Having enough savings to last 6 months without income isn't enough? You need two years of income saved or something?
