I don't think a gold "standard" would make a difference. I imagine it would just be lip service and they would continue to inflate the dollar while changing the fractional amount of gold each dollar would be worth.

would never happen tho, that kind of exposure to PMs would leave the dollar open to attack by proxy from foreign nations by fucking with the value of gold.

Would be crazy to see the price spike of gold if that did happen, but yeah, fiat will never be backed by a non-inflationary asset. Better to just hold gold and BTC than to back your currency with it.
