Has the world gone crazy?
Why would anyone buy a car with 150k miles on it for $25k
I mean I know Toyotas are good cars. I have a 2010 RAV4 with 190k miles but I wouldn't expect more than a few thousand bucks for it.

The main problem now tho is that NEW cars are expensive as fuck so USED cars are pricey because people are getting those instead. In the next few months tho I think we are gonna see a major stall in new car sales.

It took me 15 years, 2 sports cars (6ish regular) and a bike to realize a car is just a tool to get from A to B. One of the most depreciating assets a regular person will own. If you're relying on your pimped out focus ST to impress "the ladies" you can just shortcut straight to ending it. https://jalopnik.com/the-collapse-might-finally-be-here-1838696472

the new car market is collapsing as we speak, car sales in the last couple of quarters flatlined and are now in the red from last year from EVERY car brand.

Christmas time will be a huge push to sell new cars, if they dont move you will see mountains of 2019 cars with big discounts on them and production with screech to a halt at dozens of factories across the country.

hell if you want to see something weird, look at how many NEW *2018* or older cars are sitting on dealer lots. car sales have plummeted in the last 6 months, the average price of a new car has risen to fast for people to afford even with low interest rates and great financing options (72-80 months loans are the new normal).

https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/New+Cars/cars+under+30000/Everett+WA-98203?listingTypes=NEW&searchRadius=0&zip=98203&marketExtension=false&endYear=2018&maxPrice=30000&sortBy=derivedpriceDESC&numRecords=25&firstRecord=0

there arnt enough people the money to buy a new car right now and we are about to see a huge automotive industry contraction. prices will drop, hard.

Toyota vehicles hold their value well because they are well built. The used market simply does not a lie, a car costs x because it is worth x. If it wasn't nobody would pay x for it. This really bothers people who shill for the domestic American car industry for some reason. The American car industry is run by crooks and the quality of their products is just not as good, I mean it gets the job done, but they are mainly disposable fleet vehicles at the end of the day.

This really, really bothers some people, it's like they cant accept the fact that the executives, engineers, accountants, etc at GM & Ford value profit over customer satisfaction. I'm saying these things because I have a lot of experience with cars. Japanese cars are the best built, and usually have longer lifespans. There are exceptions (nissan, mazda, etc). However when I think of Japanese vehicles that are good - Toyota and Honda come to mind for sure.

American trucks are good, pony cars are okay, everything else is absolute junk.

Recently went to Hawaii and almost every truck was a 4runner. I'm very good at what I do, not trying to be a dick, I can get a car running well enough to be sold. Now I cant do this with every single car, but most I would do the bare minimum. Correct faggot, that's what I was implying. Learn from me without wasting a significant amount of monthly income on cars up into my 30's. The two sports cars were n54 335's, which are probably the cheapest performance to dollar ratio besides a rednecked fbody. The rest were beaters or family communal.

I didn't go full nigger with leases and tradeins...but still enough to significantly set me back in life to not drive a beaner camry on rims like everyone else, pointless...because you're still surrounded by beaners.

what is the consensus here on buying a new car and keeping it essentially forever, 20 years? i'm in salted-road central usa though and rust is a long-term concern. buying a car seems just fucked in general

salt destroys cars, even with protective spray on coatings applied annually it wont last forever.

think of it in /biz/ terms; cars are depreciating, disposable assets and should be treated as such. you would be better off getting a cheap lease for a few years and trading it in for a new one before the corrosion really sets in and destroys the car. spend a couple hundred dollars a month on a lease and invest the rest of your money responsibly, its better than dumping $20-30k on a car that will loose most of that value in a couple of years.

modern cars are too mechanically and electronically complicated to bother keep running, much of which has to do with modern safety/emissions regulations and planned obsolescence on the part of the manufacturer. Simple and easy to maintain cars like a Mitsubishi Mirage are rolling shitboxes you wouldnt WANT to own for 20 years and anything more complicated will start suffering from serious electrical issues 10 years down the road. Your best bet for long-term ownership is to have something tough and reliable like an early 90s pick-up truck you can work on yourself and a sacrificial beater to get you through the winters and replace every 3-5 years.

thanks anon. i posted earlier i'm the 01 sentra guy, and honestly i think i'll get more tools, the haynes manual out and keep that car going for a bit longer. the problem is on that one its rusting away. old pre-/biz/ me looked down on leasing but for my driving (not high mileage at all) it may be a viable option

My car is a 2001 Integra with 90k miles that was $3500. I'm at 110k miles now and it's ran like a dream. Always starts up even with no garage in freezing winter.
Had to replace the tires, muffler, and timing belt over the last 2 years but that's it.

>> No.15810961

New cars fucking suck anyways. Was thinking maybe I'll just let my old 1990 buick century die. Rented a few new cars to get out of town lately and hated them. Yeah, maybe I could spend more for a higher end car, but that's way outside of my comfortable living range for something I didn't enjoy being in.

Just gonna dump a few grand in my buick
