The welfare state is not a natural state. Get rid of the welfare state, and see if hypergamy stays or goes.

Hypergamy litterally is the natural state, it is the primal state which humans developed.
Civilization and religion is the non-primal state and is to some extend alien (arise from our conscious rather than instinct).
People (women) got to free, and with their new found freedom they regressed to their natural state.
Getting rid of the welfare state would in theory help, because some women would loose some financial-freedom and would, to a larger extend, become enslaved by the need to get money.
