At the core, making Bitcoin with protocol-level smart contracts is a lot more straightforward than providing external connectivity.

At the core, making Bitcoin with protocol-level smart contracts is a lot more straightforward than providing external connectivity.
And even then, the devs at the time greatly underestimated the practical implementation of ETH at the time.

Slapping the EVM onto PoW and devising Solidity were peanuts compared to achieving the very basic concept of "scaling", which they've been working feverishly on for much longer than the basics.

lmao you can't seriously believe what you just posted
What do you think chainlink does? Black magic? There's a list of nodes approved by chainlink and a smart contract to compute median values + adapters that post particular api data in a transaction.
Makerdao price feed v1 was implemented as a minor detail a long time ago, and the only difference is that there's only one api (eth price).
Chainlink could be done by one CS student as a term project.
Making a 4chan clone in php would be several times more complex.

>What do you think chainlink does? Black magic?
Decentralized oracles that bridge the gap between off and on-chain.
This is a much more complex problem than operating entirely within the same deterministic realm of crypto.

>Makerdao price feed v1 was implemented as a minor detail a long time ago
Single-use oracles are simple to make, yes.

>Chainlink could be done by one CS student as a term project.

That's an interview from March. Once chainlink launched it turned out to be a scam. There's zero decentralization, the system relies on kyc. That's why it's not going to be used. Feeds v2 are actually launching and there's no chainlink at all. What I posted is from September.
At best you can hope for another centralized scam like synthetix to use it - if chainlink gives them link for free, of course, so no value added beyond hype.

There's nothing in there that precludes the use of Chainlink.
All of this is one level above the pure oracle level.

Like Rune literally said, the plan is to diversify as much as possible, and he specifically mentioned using Chainlink.

wrong.
This is a direct equivalent of a chainlink node operator. It's the same level and no place for chainlink.
He was talking about chainlink that was described nebulously in the whitepaper - a decentralized network of nodes rather than a kyc-based network. It doesn't exist.

Feeds are not oracles you dumbass.
Oracles are what they use to process the data from the feeds.

Here's Maker explaining it:
>The reference price is provided via an oracle, which collates price data from a number of external price feeds.
Source: https://developer.makerdao.com/feeds/

Click on the "feeds" hyperlink, it takes you to the exact same "feeds" from your link.

It appears you think an "oracle" is something fundamentally different from a "feed". The feed that's used as the authoritative data is sometimes described as the singular oracle, but the terms are interchangeable. Even the title has a plural: price feed oracles.
