This is the last 2 years of my balance.

The spike represents my severance pay for losing my job. That is the most money I ever had at one time but it immediately went towards bills that were owed from that negative swing

Meh, it's not that bad really. The most amount of money I've ever managed to save was only about 3.5k. But then I spent it all on a girl who later dumped me, and since then, up until recently, I just spent lots of the money I was making on weed and food.

>>15743216
I'd suggest giving up weed, since it does chew up a lot of your money. I've spent tens of thousands on it over the years. I'm glad I quit smoking it earlier this year. Same with fast food; making your own meals at home is cheaper and healthier.

And it's not even that hard to cook a decent, cheap meal. Just buy some vegetables, stir-fry them in a frying pan, put it on a plate with some boiled rice or potatoes, add a bit of whatever kind of meat you like (which you can simply cook on a pan in the oven), then eat it. It only takes around 25-40 minutes and doesn't cost much.

I've always had a spending problem and my 20's have put my about 20k in random debt. I was lucky enough to get a good job in March and have been trying to climb my way back up but it's a matter of just doing what you say and forming those better habits. 3k to weed alone from that one ATM

You need to do better. I started a 401k at the same time in 2016 and just that is worth 100k. My other assets combined are another 200k and I've been working full time only since 2014. Man up and get a better job. Get hungry.

>I've always had a spending problem
I can relate to that. I often just buy random shit and don't do any budgeting. It's only been recently that I've started thinking more about my future and the things I want to achieve with my money. But at least you're aware of your problem. The next step is to identify a solution, then enact it. Being disciplined enough to not be frivolous with purchases is another good trait to learn.

>my 20's have put my about 20k in random debt
I've got a similar amount of debt too, but it's not actually that much when you put it into perspective. I've met people before who are hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. 20k can be paid off in less than 5 years without even really trying all that hard.

Just try to be more sagacious anon. It's not an overnight thing, but you can get into the habit of being more prudent with your money over time.

how much weed do you smoke, and what are you buying by? I bought a quarter pound at the beginning of the year for 200 dollars and I've still got a bit more than half.

It's almost like I treat it as a filler, I live in a recreational state so buying it became part of my 'routine'. I buy at an 1/8th a time for 35-40 which lasts from 3-4 days, or Saturday/Sunday.

Maybe I should go the monster jar route and buy more in on sitting. I'm a retard though and fall for the 'this will be the last time' buy a quarter of the time

You need to smoke less, an eighth should last you at least 2 weeks.

Smoking 10 years now.
