This shouldn't surprise anyone. Security based on the inability of computers to do enough calculations fast enough will always lose against time.

For at least 2 years I've been talking about the vulnerability of the public/private address/password system used by bitcoin. My calculation from a few years ago showed that if 50% of the miners turned their machine to the task, it would take about 8 months to be able to calculate any password based on the public address.
