There is nothing that could sustain a $50 silver price for too long though, a price increase would be driven by pure speculation and greater fool investing as there is no decrease in supply or increase in demand or hyperinflation event going on, I can see it spiking like in 2010, but you would better sell then because it will go back down to a new normal in the lower 20s or upper teens.

Well, it is possible. The rhodium mines in SA back in 2008 experienced just a slight electrical problem causing rhodium to soar from around 2000ish to well over 10k. Of course that precious metal is much more rare, but it is still a possibility for silver to skyrocket if the mines shut down for a little.
