I made a thread after finding this pic, asked how they justify spending so much money on toys, and asking what were the most cost effective firearms

Favorite response:
>I recommend Glock because they are basically the Toyota Corolla of handguns. Commonly used by police and regular citizens alike, with a proven track record and excellent availability of parts. There are cheaper options, and fancier ones of course too. But a used police gun will usually have plenty more to give. They often rotate new handguns in every couple of years, and don't see near enough trigger time in that period to really wear out. If something is worn, since the gun is so common it's going to be easy and cheap to replace. You might even get slightly dim night sights, which are a handy feature.

Highlights:

>To answer your original question, best bang for your buck? a 12 gauge with your choice of buckshot or other specialty rounds

>Shotties are fine for the price point of $200-300. The only PCC at that range is a used Hipoint carbine, and they're good but not pretty. Semi rifles at that pp just don't exist period lmao.

>Mav88 F/S is the /k/ poorfag gun of choice for a reason.

>if you want the best bang for your buck, I'd suggest a pistol caliber carbine. Semi auto or bolt action, 9 mm, 380 acp, or 38 special. If you want a rifle, bolt action in 7.62x39 or 5.56.

>An AR-15, if legal in your state is going to be the most combat effective weapon to ratio of price available. We're talking 30rds on tap of ammunition which will rip clean through Kevlar, hit reliably out to 300yd, kill much faster with way more certainty than any pistol and cost 25-30 cents per trigger pull.

>A shotgun is useful for going fully off grid or holding down the interior of a structure. It's also dirt cheap, but ammunition is more expensive.

>Good cheap pistols exist too and will be very valuable for keeping a low profile, so get a police trade-in Glock or two and good holsters to match

a 12 gauge is a wonderful thing. Especially a tactical model. Wide ammo options. Being a perfect marksmen is not a requirement either.

Generally speaking a single buckshot (slug) will kill some fool if they're at close range (which if this is inside a home is a pretty sure thing) so no need to worry about ammo supply. To put this right. a buckshot (slug) will put a nice fist size hole in a car door so yeah some poor fool don't stand a chance in hell. If your wanting some dispersion a regular buckshot (pellets) is another good choice.

We've never seen an economy like this. It's booming. It's better than ever. And it's not going to stop. Stop saying that there's going to be a recession. We've never had it this good, so past indicators can't be applied to this situation. They're irrelevant. Our economy is doing wonderful, and will do wonderful for the next decade. S&P 3,000 and then S&P 4,000 and then S&P 6,000 and so on. The stocks will never go down ever again, I assure you.

The grips on glocks feel weird as hell, they have a strange lump on the back that doesn't fit my hand well. Other than that they're p great, but you sometimes have to shell out for extra features. For example their trigger guard is too thicc and feels weird, you can get it undercut to make it great but that costs money. Additionally their stock polymer sights (if you can't find one with used night sights) suuuuucckkk, you NEED to replace them or get one with steel night sights.
If you just want a cheap-ish gun that's extremely reliable they're a good deal and a very good first handgun

Thinking about converting my GDOT bags to cash, or MO, MRK, JNJ, SCHD, PEP... anything else else, something that pays a dividend. If they hadn't mooned so hard already, gold or silver even would likely be a better bet.

In a recession, each good or service experiences a drop in market price comparable to the degree to which it is of generally inessential value.

A rifle is definitely inessential. Therefore, unlike fuel or meat, the price will be dragged down to a great degree by recessionary pressures. The election of Democratic politicians (plausible) or threat of total economic collapse (implausible, but possible if recession is mismanaged) may, however, result in a net increase in price.

There are a lot of pistols in the same category as Glock, namely, striker-fired polymer-framed pistols. Glocks are pretty good but a lot of competitors take the traits of Glocks and do them as as well or better, sometimes with a drawback; their biggest strength is size efficiency, and that's marginal depending on what gun you compare it to. Glocks are overpriced new by $1-200 unless you can get access to their blue label program (.mil, vet, or LEO), but any Gen 3 or newer Glock will be fine. Shop around your local gun shop and get a feel for the Glock and its competitors. Most of them perform pretty comparably with some ergonomic and other details that vary, so it'll be hard to go wrong.

I'm not saying that a rifle isn't of value, I'm simply saying that it isn't of essential value, at least in today's society. You can live without it, it is not essential for life or normal function, and is thus, inessential.

When someone is forced to choose exclusively between having a rifle or having this month's worth of food, rent, and gas - what do you think they will choose? In a recession, it is an exclusive choice for most people. Therefore, in a recessionary environment absent any political alarm or instability, the value of purchasing a rifle will decrease, and thus the price rifles command will decrease with it.

Historically the prices of the AR15 in the last 2 years have never been so low in the US. If you go back to the 90s and the 00s and check the prices advertised for AR15s, they were much higher in inflation adjusted dollars.

A ban that grandfathered all old rifles but banned new production would make these guns skyrocket, similar to America's full auto registry.

a double stack pistol is one where the magazine feeds the rounds in like pic related, pretty much all handguns designed after 1980 work like that. If it holds 15+ rounds it's a double stack, you want that. Glock does offer some single stacks but only in for meme concealed carry options. Just get a 17 or a 19, can't go wrong. Remember you want 9mm, don't get bamboozled into .40 or .45, and definitely never touch .357 sig or some other meme caliber.
An 80% lower is a way of making your own unregistered Ar-15 rifle. The ATF only considers an AR lower a registered firearm if it's more than 80% complete, you can order one that's only partially finished with no background check because it's technically just a chunk of aluminum/polymer in the eyes of the law. If you're handy with a drill press and end mill you can finish the remaining 20% yourself and have a working lower with no serial number or registration process, unknown to the government. This is controversial but not illegal, and a good way to make your own ARs cheaply.

Double-stack refers to a type of magazine design. Most modern magazine-fed firearms feed from a double-stack magazine, that is, the cartridges alternate diagonally to make more efficient use of space, fitting more cartridges in a magazine of a given length while only increasing width somewhat. Almost all Glocks use double-stack mags aside from a few that are oriented towards concealed-carry, and even then there are double-stack CC guns.

I would advise you purchase a Glock 19 specifically for a few reasons.
>9mm is cheap, common, effective
>The 19 is a compact model that's large enough for regular use and small enough to reasonably conceal
>Glock 19 carries 15rds but can still use longer 17rd 9mm mags used the the full-size Glock 17, as well as the longboi Glock mags out there, though the longboi mags aren't as practical in a defensive handgun.

You know I don't have a ton of experience with spreads, although I have done some theoretical calculations in how to best use them. Basically, it boils down to 2 simple rules:
>Short term (2wk-1mo) otm credit spreads
>Long term (6mo-2yr) atm/itm debit spreads
and you wanna distribute your collateralized capital evenly over time so you don't lose it all on a single bad trade.

However, covered calls are utterly based. It's literally someone paying you for the opportunity to sell your stock at a certain price. It's just like a dividend every week!

Thank you for coming to my TedX talk.

So I was looking at the SPXL (3x bull S&P ETF) chart going back for years and it looks tailor made for scalping. Jist buy the dips and sell every bounce. If it dips a little lower, just buy more. If it dips really hard and you run out of money just hold until it comes back up since after all it tracks the S&P so has a great chance of working out. And if you end up holding long term, no problem as you aren't any worse off than any other ETF investor except it's a 3x leveraged instrument which will jist end up making you more money anyway. And if it moons, just make sure you don't sell out completely so you can ride the gains. Even if you are only 1/3 in on a good moon, you still capture equally as good gains as if you were all in SPY.

Why is this not the master plan, /smg/? How am I going to get rekt doing this?

Why the fuck would you set a stop loss in the losing zone when it's eventually going up again in a reasonable time frame? AMD is in a pretty good position right now.

Set a trailing stop when you're green, THEN buy cheapies. Otherwise, you're just burning money.

I did that for a period of a few months (last Nov-Feb). Works pretty well, particularly when paired with SPXL/U (Reluctant's method). 1/5/15 min candles with bollingers and RSI seem to do okay. Very stressful to do for long periods of time though, after three months of doing that pretty much every day I was frazzled and burnt. I'd like to start again with that exact method honestly, especially since now I can daytrade freely.
One thing I noticed was it was a lot safer to trade crosses on BB EMA rather than trying to catch the exact bottom/top of price action, but you make a lot less. You do you

Yeah, shorty is a cutie. I looked at the chart going back a while and even when SPY goes "sideways", there are still little dips and peaks that are magnified on the 3x chart. Regarding the reality of a leveraged ETF not really tracking the underlying exactly and even going down in a volatile or crab market due to daily rebalancing and sideways volatility, I don't think the effect is as bad as it seems in practice at least my research on resulting numbers from simulated trading on historical charts doesn't make it appear to be a serious issue. I believe the constant selling and buying back in on ups and downs will mitigate it further. Even to the point of it being a moot issue.
I'll just have to see how my trading style works in practice on the idea but it seems good in theory. I trade similar to this with bitcoin and despite it going down in 2018 I still managed to make a lot of money. Hard work and diligence required though.

do you guys not trade based on technicals or what? you get a good system together and it becomes pretty easy to know the direction the market is moving and for how long, after that you just pick a time frame you want to trade on (or hell, even trade using multiple time frames at the same time).

TA will seriously make you a lot of money in the long run and take the guess work out of it. but it takes a lot of time researching indicators and backtesting. you don't even need to pair it with fundamentals or the news but those do help a lot if you do both (like obviously you know going long is probably a bad fucking idea after trump announced the tariffs, shit like that would explain why all of a sudden you'd see a bunch of stocks drop like a rock)

the inverse yield curve isn't absolute, it's symptomatic. it basically means that if we do nothing then we're gonna be fucked, like if you have a fever and you don't go to the doctor and take medicine then you might die. the chinese already cracked under the pressure yesterday.

>On Thursday, a statement from the Chinese government released just before the start of trading in the United States helped to lower the tension.

>“We hope the U.S. can work in concert with China to implement the two presidents’ consensus that was reached in Osaka, and to work out a mutually acceptable solution through equal-footed dialogue and consultation with mutual respect,” Hua Chunying, the foreign ministry representative, said in the statement. The consensus in question was hashed out by Mr. Trump and Xi Jinping, China’s leader, in June, when they agreed to resume trade talks.

Translation: this really is fucking our worse-than-romania GDP right now and our people really hate us with the hong kong shit going on, please let's make a deal to make this all go away. They manipulated their currency, Trump called them on their bullshit and they brought it back up again, now this statement yesterday. Pretty obvious they're cracking. If they were just saying "Fuck me? No, fuck YOU!" and really taking a hard stance, I'd be worried, but now they're already looking to compromise. Honestly not worried about recession at all, grab your cheapies while you can especially at OPEX today the market is sure to go down a lot, but it's just down artificially as I'm sure you guys are aware. As long as your company's fundies are strong there will be a correction in the next week to next month imho. This is basically around where we're bottoming out.

This. In order to look like a genius, you have to get more of your bets right than wrong. Someone who buys and sells constantly has a very low chance of significantly beating the market, simply for statistical reasons. Someone (like Buffet) who only makes a few major bets over multiple decades is no more likely to beat the market, but only needs to get lucky a few times.

Seriously, Buffet is no more insightful than "dividends are your fren" poster.

If we're talking the SP500, its up 20% YTD. If we ignore the dip that happened Dec 2018 then its almost perfectly aligned with the end of 2018 minus that dip, so steady rather than dipping.

Historically the SP500 moves between +40 to -40% with an average of 14% per year. So you're not in a dip.

As much as people like to say that everyone purchases all items through Amazon, that's not reality. Just over the last month ODP has lost about 1/3 of its share price, which at about $2, was already a cheap valuation. In that same time, nothing has really changed as far as what was known about the company's performance and future prospects. Either even the cheap valuation a month ago was too high or the valuation now is too low. I think the latter.

This.

December was the multi year dip. Where we are now is 6% off all time highs, highs that have been rejected 3 times now over the span of almost 18 months.

The market needs to make a convincing move above the ATH for a bull market to continue, what we're experiencing now is more akin to stagnation.

Be very careful everyone, no matter if you're a bull or a bear. These markets aren't stable. They are completely headline driven, moreso than at any point in the last 10 years I think.

My dad is wanting to invest some of his retirement money and is asking me for advice. I know literally nothing of investing. He wants something he can buy and sit on til he wants an expensive toy in the future or something, I'd imagine. I suggested something in security since it seems a safe bet with all the shootings and what-not in the US that a lot of businesses and public areas are probably going to be investing in tightened security for big gatherings and shit but I don't know specifically what companies to invest in. Any idea where to start for this? he doesn't even have a broker or anything just expects me to shit out answers to his investing inquiries. Help a brotha out?
