It's hard to deduce results if the stock market is correlated with the BTC price because shit is volatile. I think a recession would put BTC to the test, if it performs adequate it could put new trust into crypto. Argentinians with BTC are already better off because their currency shit the bad hard, so it has its first success as a hedge against inflation.

Depends on crypto.
Shitcoins with only speculative value: no. They can cherish when economy is ok and there are enough money to gamble for big guys. During the recession conservative approach dominates.
Altcoins with actual value: Most probably yes. Especially undervalued and (semi)officially backed by big corporations:
NOIA Network. LTO Network. Maybe (maybe) Harmony.

Until it's not seen as an investment but a hedge or safe way to store funds. Remember, banks use fractional reserves.

no, there is no inverse relationship with equities and the overall stock market.

the only reason btc reached ath in 2017 is because the stock market was also reaching ath and people were looking for places to invest all their stock market gains

Probably not. They say it's "non-correlated" but it doesn't seem that way to me
