The horrifying effects of the "student debt" crisis haven't matured yet, but they're coming.

I know only like 30% or some other pathetic amount of 4chan posters actually went to college, but there are hundreds of thousands of us in America, the only country that matters, that went to college and then grad school/med school/law school and have decent paying jobs, but we're chained to our student debt and won't be buying a house/car/etc. any time soon. Once that starts adding up en masse, our economy will be truly, truly fucked.

Not sure if cancelling it will solve the problem. It never should have gotten this bad in the first place. Colleges and greedy banks with big time lobbyists are 100% to blame.

Sure, but where is it going to begin with?
Greedy fucking loaners and school tuition sharks.

Government kept giving parasite students all this free money
And the loaners and schools realized that they could just keep raising the prices because the government is going to pay it anyways or else the student who doesn't qualify for gibs will go into debt for it and be forced to pay it.

Cancelling student debt will cause a hard reset of this fucking disaster of an education bubble that is very similar to the 2008 housing crisis. Both of them are propped up on predatory loans and overvaluation.
It will be ugly at first, but the free market will fix it, after government forces it to reset from the damage that government itself caused.

It's so easy to permanently defer paying the loans, just go to grad school permanently. Get a masters in your main career field. Then, get an MBA online. Then, just keep getting easy masters in easy shit like education or other random bull shit that is worthless; plenty of online masters programs that give out easy degrees. The nice part is all of the grad plus loans you're taking out, you're going to get whatever is left back in your bank account ($20k/yr). Bonus points if your company does tuition reimbursement. I could move to fucking Vietnam or eastern europe and just live off student loans while taking easy online classes if I wanted.

They will NEVER forgive it. Or if they do, they'll fuck the students over somehow. I'm guessing they'll forgive it but force them to pay all the taxes for the amount forgiven, which gives them free reign to imprison millions of people and put them in prison labor camps. Nobody is saying the trades aren’t a valid alternative. But some fields require higher education and don’t have adequate employment available or the job doesn’t pay enough to actually pay off the monumental debt.

Take for instance law school. Sure, most people will be fine and will have decent jobs, but what about the Public Defenders? Absolutely essentially position with an absolutely shit wage, yet their student loans are going to be the same as the rest of the lawyers they went to school with. What about niche medical fields? You still have to go to medical school and incur those loans, but what if you can’t get a job in your field because it’s very very small but, again, absolutely essential.

The real problem is that undergrad is bloated with a bunch of required classes that are high-school tier but cost full tuition to attend. Schools know that anyone with a pulse can get a student loan so they jack up the prices and you end up with dipshit KIDS taking out massive loans that fuck them for the rest of their lives. Taking out 100k+ for loans shouldn’t be easier than buying a fucking car.

LOL.

I was at a bar one night with a law school classmate, and our waitress started talking to us about her student loan debt. She had been in college and grad school for about a decade by then, had $300,000 in student loans, and was about to finish her Ph.D. in "ethnomusicology". I shit you not, $300K to be a Doctor of Ethnomusicology.

After she walked away, my classmate looked at me with wide eyes and said, rhetorically, "What the fuck do you do with a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology?"

The answer was obvious, of course.

Bernie also wants to make college free.

Andrew Yang also wants to forgive student debt but not make college free. He has also said he wants to implement a 10x10 student loan emancipation plan that will provide student loan forgiveness for anyone who dedicates 10% of their salary for 10 years to repayment. Yang is also very pro-crypto!

Eliebeth Warren wants to cancel$50,000 in student loan debt for every person with household income under $100,000. Provide substantial debt cancellation for every person with household income between $100,000 and $250,000.

I'm voting for YANG. I even donated some ethereum to his presidential campaign 3 weeks ago and I think he's accepting lightning network bitcoin payments now.

Notice how none of these guys want it so you can default on student loans. That would be the best solution. 1.2 trillion to erase student debt is just giving banks 1.2 trillion dollars even though they're responsible for this. The price of college is super inflated because theres tons of money coming in from students getting loans and banks have no risk because you can't default on them. Theyll give anyone a loan. well it isn't solving the problem. students will continue to borrow money and go into debt.

There is a simpler way - let students expunge they debt by going bankrupt.
This way, students will have a much harder time getting student loans, because no one will lend them money that can be wiped away with a bankruptcy.
the cost of college will also go down, and colleges will find ways to save money and reduce costs so education is affordable.

debtholders will see a large write-off..

debtors will see a gain.

to be fair, I think the issue here is college tuition inflation. After the government pushed the line that college for everybody was a good thing, colleges raised tuition, and students took on debt to go into college..

there is some truth to the statement that more education leads to a more productive workforce, but this doesn't fit with the falling labor value of many workers in today's society especially with increasing specialization of certain jobs like data science / ai / cs, and the devaluation of most other jobs.
