First of all I'm located in chicago and a noob. I've tried googling this and get different answers, so what time is the stock market open in chicago? From what I can tell it's 8:30 am to 4pm? Now what time does the pre market open and what about after hours? Also on robinhood in the morning the market seems to open at 7 am and it still says after hours. My mind is full of fuk please help

Which "market"? It will be written on the exchange website 100%.

I'm in the USA so I assume the NYSE? Not sure how that works. Again I'm using robinhood so I think that narrows it down

First, the times are listed in UTC. Duh.

Second, "Chicago" refers to the Chicago Stock Exchange, not the time in Chicago. Duh.

7AM to 7PM.

7-8:30AM is Pre-Market
8:30AM-3PM is regular session
3PM - 7PM is After Hours

Clear?

market starts at different times in different places . that's why all the US stock market is focused in NY - because it's the earliest time zone so they get a head start on the rest of the country.

Nah.
If you need to, you can subtract 2 hours for west coast, add one for east coast, so 5-5 in LA, 8-8 in NY.
