Luxury Car Marques are the canary in the coalmine

>> No.14957851

sry for dumb question, but if luxury markets are the ones who takes the biggest hits because people just buy what they really need to save money. would this mean we would also make a backwards step in ecology/technology since older cars would be worth more to keep than switching to electric ones?

Essential electronics will stay in business, but a few car companies, particularly high end ones will be brought out.

Tesla will actually survive , electric cars are a strategic need for this century.

Just got off the phone with a Tesla representative about installing 8 superchargers at my business property. You fools don't know just how ahead Tesla is when it comes to charging infrastructure. Pro-tip; I'm off a major freeway exit in SoCal; even General Motors wanted to install their chargers here but I promptly told them to FUCK OFF

>electric cars are better for the environment
I'm skeptical about that assumption for a start - the energy still has to be produced, somehow, and the grid (everywhere) would collapse if everyone switched tomorrow. But equally, not sure tesla (for example) is a 'luxury marque' necessarily - they'd probably be fucked anyway tho as their finance is sketchy and its a hard business, one they have neither scale or models to survive a srs downturn. With luxury, I mean more small sellers of powerful cars, like Aston Martin - they are down 20%+, its a signo the times. And these are status symbol gas guzzlers, losing them is hardly bad for the environment - altho, not enough of these to make any difference. Electric cars will come anyway, and be standard. The infrastructure for them is not there at present however. But when it is, you'll find petrol suddenly gets fuck expensive, or petrol car emissions outlawed. Can forget keeping your old car then

Not really, electronics will suffer heavily. The market will be flooded with used Iphones and shit, let alone the drop in new sales. And that is just the consumer market, businesses still run on old hardware and will put back new buys far far way forward

No they won't. They live off carbon tax credits. You take that away, they're bankrupt. They're not going to last.

No you. Wait until they get their growing pains sorted out. Electric motors and batteries are cheaper than hugely complex fire breathing ICE engines. Hugely more desirable too. Tesla’s future is bright.

I've been thinking about this lately, though not so much from the perspective of electric replacing petrol as much as momcars replacing any aesthetic cars like sedans and sportscars. I'm seeing a future where petrol is banned except for the gas guzzler racecars instead of petrol being fully banned though, there's bound to be some boomers that legally keep it around for their classic shitboxes.
