I don't need any coding experience at all, but had to show that I knew the products (games) so that there was less for them to teach me.

It can be helpful because there are many opportunities for Business Insights / data in msot companies. If you have the opportunity I would definitely recommend learning the basics as it will give you an edge. This is one of the few growing areas.
