the unknowns are: (a) do they already own all their coins (i would assume yes), (b) how much new inflows will happen and thus what positive pressure will be exerted.

Absolutely correct....now what happens to those BTC? Are transferred to buyer?
How does Bakkt now replenish their supply to make more loans?

>> No.14902476

>Bakkt already bought their BTC holdings
Yes, you are ignoring that once someone borrows / shorts those holdings are gone...

physically settled markets are naturally biased 'long' over the long-term...you are either buying to hold or buying to short...there is still positive pressure on price.

The confusion comes in becomes 99% of all modern markets settle in paper, thus removes the inherent positive pressure that physically settled markets have.

by selling or buying large amount of coins you can pretty much do whatever you want, especially in ill-liquid market like crypto, for god sake someone with 10k btc could wipe the bid side all the way to 3k market selling on coinbase

>> No.14904316

I would imagine "Physically settled" just means the number of bitcoins on your dashboard changes, not actual bitcoins going into your own address.

>5. For physical delivery and secure storage of bitcoin, an integrated custody service will be fulfilled by Bakkt’s qualified custodian, subject to regulatory approval. Safekeeping will be supported by insurance, cybersecurity, and comprehensive compliance, including an anti-money-laundering program and blockchain analytics.
