So my dad is dying. He's got a couple months left. Life is hell and I am beyond crushed, but me, my sister and him have to talk about inheritance. He doesn't have much money to pass on (what he does leave we'll split 50/50), but he is going to leave us a house in Massachusetts that's paid off. Our guess is it's worth $400,000. Should we sell it? Rent it out? Move into it? Both me and my sister make jack dick for money, have a shit ton of debt like every other non boomer and places of our own. I could move in with my wife. Not having a mortgage would really REALLY help.

Sell it, live the good life for a couple of months, take a heroic dose of heroin, and gently fade into darkness.

Haha rent the fuck out of that house to your own generation. You will slowly become the boomer. Once you break even of $400,000 grand just kick them out and sell the shit out of it and double your profit lmaooooo millennials are so cucked.

It's 5 bed 3 full baths. In the area it's in, after looking at similar stuff for rent on Zillow I could easily ask $2700-3000 a month.

You won't be able to do shit, you'll have to give Uncle Sam a generous piece of that pie first.

Rent and mortgage it. Use the mortgage to buy another place and also rent it. When you pay the mortgage repeat it.

I'm not saying "dont rent it out", but dont fall for the belief that its "passive income" either...
(a) things break
(b) ppl break things
(c) taxes
(d) ppl dont pay on time
plus alot more shit.
There is a good argument for you + sister moving in and using that as a chance to start saving and paying off your debts.

Sorry, I dont have any financial advice for you anon. Sorry to hear about your dads situation though, my one suggestion would be to spend as much time as you can with him and it enjoy it as much as is possible.

Amherst. Less than 10 minute drive to UMASS or Amherst college. Very safe secluded neighborhood down a quarter mile away from a major road.
