i don't really get whats your criticism, you only get payed if people use your node, and the node provides an actual service which is hiding your IP and encrypting your data, so you get exactly what you sign for , its not like anyone promises anything else.
think of running a node like any other utility or service job, i bake the bread and get payed

there are various types of nodes tor exit nodes push exit traffic through tor thus protecting node hosters, relay nodes are not exit nodes thus they never get in contact with the non encryoted data they just rely whats requested, If you are too afraid of running an Exit Node or even technically not savvy to manage a node that routes through TOR, you can always run a Relay Node to ensure your traffic always moves within the network, never being a gateway to the internet.

It's just a list of literal-who providers.
dVPNs aren't a great idea (yet) because it's not fully end-to-end, since the protocols the VPN would encrypt are themselves mostly plaintext (or weakly encrypted). The benefit of a centralized VPN is that you only have to worry about one entity sniffing your packets. With a dVPN, you have to worry that hundreds/thousands of people are doing that. Since there's a monetary incentive to doing that, there's a good chance most will, and they would still benefit from the incentives of running the node itself. And no, you can't blacklist nodes that are sniffing packets because it would happen transparently, so there would be no evidence. Only the intrusive nodes doing loud things like injecting ads would get blocked, eventually. But by then it might be too late, especially if they're injecting things like browser exploit kits.
Best option for now is to chain multiple VPNs, paying for those with privacy-friendly altcoins, and/or combine those with Tor/i2p.
