Just how fucked are we if 3D printing is not a meme anymore and becomes mainstream?

Will there literally be billions of NEETs worldwide?

3d printers aren't a new concept, this is just a consumer level version of it

it wont become a thing.

SSYS
DDD

Neither of which is a very good investment.

I would buy 3D systems desu

>Initially it appears to create jobs because anyone can access them and people are able to innovate faster than companies
>Then it comes down to buying power: big companies have the connections to land bigger contracts, the budget to afford more expensive materials, and the credit to finance bigger operations
>They start pushing the little guy out of more and more work

It'll be pretty much the same as most new tech.

HP 3D printer is supposed to be so good to put them both out of business.

i'd rather invest in the drafting software. the physical printer is shit in anything i've seen

Given that we're generally talking about parts manufacturing, the real loser in those developments is likely going to be China and similar countries, who rely heavily on throwing manpower at cheap work.

In other words, we'll likely not really see a huge uptick in NEETs, but I'm betting we'll see a huge loss in jobs in China. I'm guessing they are hoping that it'll happen well after they move beyond being a manufacturing economy.

It is coming along pretty interestingly, however, probably not for the average person.

Industrial level 3-D printing is a joke, simply because of metallurgy and what it requires to make things out of metal. There are impurities and qualities that have to be taken into consideration that cannot be perfected by a 3D printer. So long as metal cannot be 3D printed then this thing is just bullshit hype.

>>1478974
First off metal is being 3D printed. NASA makes rocket parts. They use lasers to fuse powdered metal, like titanium. Tech was developed in the 80's and now perfected.

Second the whole point of consumer 3D printers is to eliminate the factory and supply chain. Make the stuff at your home. More money for the low volume, but the other costs like transportation are gone.

No it's not. There's a difference between using a laser as part of the fabrication process and 3-D printing actual components. The home 3-D printer isn't going to put even a small dent in the supply chain of most consumer goods. These are the same morons falling for le elon musk maymay.
