So forgivess and mercy are of high value in Islam as humans should strive to be as close to God as possible. And God is the most merciful and forgiving.

However, in my view Christianity and any religion that takes nonviolence seriously (such as Buddhism, like I mentioned before) give an additional feeling of absolute security that if you take this one relatively simple set of things seriously, based on the actual text as given and not something some guy tells you, then you're not going to end up doing something really fucked up down the line.
