Why didn't BitMex liquidate me?

I set a BTC perpetual swap long contract and went to bed. When I woke up, the price of a XBT contract had dipped below my liquidation price for hours. Why didn't BitMex liquidate my position? I also saw the contract had more leverage than I put on when I went to bed, why did BitMex add more leverage than I set?

Did you use cross leverage OP?
If so then it probably dipped into your reserve, that is, your total equity, rather than the original equity you had committed. If that's the case, then consider yourself lucky your whole stack wasn't liquidated.
next time consider predefining your leverage and thus exposure

Britain even if they didn't spread Democracy everywhere they went, they did give people under their rule a legal system where defendants had a reasonable expectation of winning against the government in court, could not be arrested or searched without warrants and basic free speech rights. I would argue that is not the case for many countries. If you look at China the only two places worth living in where human life matters and you can't be erased for protesting are former european colonies Hong Kong and Macau.
