LN is time locked btc that is settled at some point
locking and settled are both events on the main chain
what happens on LN is mystery meat and it often fails

LN is a soft fork and makes the update possible, BTC is not updatable because the miners will not adopt a chain that is less profitable for them and since there is no dev team, there is no way around it

moon boi are 100k-ing but in reality there is no reason for anyone at all to use BTC, there is a lot of competition now, there is no demand for btc, it is just price speculation

bitcoin is the only on trustless permissionless publicly auditable ledger that is actually secure. (no there is no other. your favorite shitcoin is not secure and it could possibly have other failings too.)

ln is a medium term solution for instant retail payments (think walmart and tesco) and instant microtransactions offchain in an actual trustless way (anybody could do it in a trustful permissioned way that's not innovation).

the achilles heel of ln is routing, which either gets solved or the network takes a topology that mitigates the issue or it gets worked around by layer 3.
