I'm assuming that ETH would be a better choice because it has more upside to its ATH and has solid fundamentals (though not as solid as BTC's).

This is what I learned from DCA'ing. DCA in less than you want to but also load the rest as USD. Then while the DCA is happening, if you see a big dip, use the USD already cleared and on an exchange to buy.
