I have no idea about the intricacies of this story/situation, and details about the laws, but the thing that always irritates me about Blunt approaches, like this, is that it doesn't actually seem to deal with the underlying reasons of why there SEEMS to be a pay gap.

Of some research I've read, it can be interpreted that women are paid less for several reasons:

They're less likely than men to bargain for higher raises/bonuses. They are also less likely to be in workplace leadership/management roles. There's also issues around child-rearing and time taken off work for those tasks.

Being a Feminine man, myself, I can identify with the difficulties women may experience when bargaining for higher pay. It's quite distasteful and awkward - "Am I really worth this much? What if I'm asking for too much, and my performance begins to drop? Why can't they just give me a set amount more?"

Those issues are complicated to deal with, especially the leadership position one, because humans may literally just have an innate bias towards preferring men in leadership roles (even, at times, when they're less Competent), it "feels" right. That's a fundamental Human issue that needs to be managed, so as to avoid Competent women from getting into positioning they deserve, and which is already taking place in Society. (The arguments over whether or not women SHOULD have leadership roles, or even voluntarily work in the first place, are discussions which should be kept separate from this)

As other people ITT have mentioned, it once again feeds into the narrative that women are this unfairly treated lower-class, rather than looking at the actual reasons for why these apparent disparities occur, and then focusing on managing those.

I literally never claimed that it was. I was just pointing out the stupidity of making it harder for people to have kids if you want higher birthrates. Obviously there are many more factors at play in decreasing birth rates, namely increases in female education and industrialization, but the least you could do is make it easier for people who may want to have children but can't risk losing their jobs or income to have kids.

Equity laws are indefensible. Maternity leave for both seems to help birthrates a bit and my anecdotal experience supports that. Women shouldn't be in the workplace in the first place but at least this gets them out for a bit and allows the men to bond with their families.

Personally I focused my efforts on my own projects instead and made enough money to buy the company if I want. If they had payed me 10 times more I would still work for them and those projects would be benefiting them instead of competing.
