The saddest part about Skycoin is that it’s not even a very successful scam. Its price is in the gutter and will stay there until going even lower. Meanwhile utility tokens and coins like /REDACTED/, BNB, and XLM have steadily gained in value and climbed the cmc charts for the last 6 months. If only you’d listened. Instead you bought bags of pure shit that are now worth a fraction of what they once were and the only thing keeping you going is the delusional rantings of Steve and synth with literally no confirmation from the outside world that they’re right. Steve literally claims that oracles don’t exist. He’s the only one in the blockchain space that claims this.

Meanwhile /REDACTED/ accumulates customer after customer (swift, Corda), endless partnerships, acquisition after acquisition (oraclize, town crier) and growing media recognition from legitimate publications (Tech review, WSJ). What does Skycoin have? A tattoo on the back of an old junkie. lol.

http://www.skyfud.com/mcafee.html

"Update: In March 2019, Skycoin and John McAfee ended their relationship because McAfee began to demand payment in cash or Bitcoin in return for his promotional activity. Skycoin refused to pay since this was not part of the original agreement, and because McAfee had not yet delivered any significant promotional work, aside from several early tweets about the project. It is believed that McAfee may be under financial pressure as a result of his lifestyle and his ongoing investigation by the IRS, hence the unexpected demand for funds. The remainder of the page below is unchanged, and describes the relationship prior to this parting of ways."
The project is better off without him. Skycoin never asked him to get a tattoo, and he didn't really do anything to help promote it after that.

Meanwhile, SKY just keeps on pumping out more hardware, software, services, development etc.

SKY CX is starting to look really cool with its new game engine, and the community is growing rapidly.

The opposite actually. Skycoin never paid him anything, and never agreed to pay him anything. It was supposed to be a joint marketing collaborative type of partnership. But McAfee is in financial trouble due to his lavish lifestyle, and the IRS is hounding him, so he started demanding money, and Skycoin refused (rightly so).

To be honest, this is the first bit of decent publicity McAfee has done for the project since his tattoo lol. More people will look into it now, and everyone who looks into Skycoin properly ends up realising that it's the most legit blockchain project in the market.

Sure there's a consensus, it's just on a masternode system with a few full nodes. It's not fully decentralized in the way that Bitcoin is, is what you're trying to say.

Which isn't a bad thing. PoW/PoS don't really work given that they're prone to 51% attacks.

Skycoin isn't prone to 51% attacks and can easily update their current consensus method with exchanges, etc, until they release Obelisk.

Seems unlikely, he wouldn't be carrying the masternode around with him or keeping it at his house.

Even if it happened, the ledger is still immutable and replicated across thousands of nodes, creating the consensus.

So there's not much they could do, even with access to the masternode. Maybe make some transactions, which the devs would just reverse by forking back to before the incident?

And even this highly unlikely event won't be possible once Obelisk is released.

It got the project some publicity and cost nothing. Seems like a win-win from Skycoin's POV. Publicity when McAfee joined, and more publicity when he rage-quit. When a project is as strong as Skycoin, all publicity is good publicity, because when people investigate the project properly they always end up finding out how advanced and comprehensive it is, and how much development is going on.

It dropped to 1/7 of its value this time (assuming that was the bottom). It has fallen 1/10 of its value in earlier cycles though.

This is Skycoin's first market cycle, and the price is currently up 30% from the bottom. But price is no indicator of the strength of a project. Skycoin is still relatively unknown.

The project has been in development for seven years, but the coin wasn't actually listed until 2017.

It's not an ERC20 token that can just be listed immediately with no development.

There were paid groups dedicated to fudding Skycoin. Any shaky reputation was mostly created by competitors (obviously the home invasion and theft by the Chinese marketers didn't help). Substratum was one of the communities exposed as having a paid fud team attacking Skycoin.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjHfODqXnWg

See video for details. Skycoin is a major threat to many other crypto projects, hence all the fud.

LOL, yes, now that they've all been released, we can just pretend they aren't important and that no fudders ever claimed they wouldn't be released...

http://www.skyfud.com/products.html

"Each time Skycoin announces a forthcoming new product, these fudders insist that it will never be released, or that it will be some new type of scam.

Over the past two years, the fudders have claimed that Skyminers don't exist and will never be released. They said mobile wallets will never be released. They insisted that the Skycoin hardware wallets would never be delivered. They said that there will never be any ICOs launched on Skycoin Fiber, and that there will never be any games developed using Skycoin CX.

But, as always, Skycoin proved the fudders wrong and delivered on every one of these promises.

And every time when Skycoin releases its latest new product as promised, the fudders simply ignore it and move on to the next product on Skycoin's roadmap, claiming the next one will never be released.

Some of Skycoins working products are listed below.

...

The Skycoin team has been pushing out developments and updates on GitHub since 2013. New working products are delivered regularly. The Skycoin GitHub consists of over 40 repositories. Measuring GitHub activity over the past 12 months (based only on the main Skycoin repo), Cryptomiso places Skycoin at rank 16 out of 755 cryptocurrencies, and CoinCodeCap places Skycoin at rank 8."

It's a test network for Skywire, which is a decentralized internet service, not a cryptocurrency, so of course the definition doesn't meet that of a cryptocurrency.

But then he started demanding money - "pay me or I'll dump your project publicly" - because he's broke from snorting too many bath salts, and the IRS is hounding him. Skycoin refused to pay, because Skycoin doesn't need him badly enough to bow to extortion.

Which hardware? The Skyminers or the hardware wallets or the antennas?

None of them require decentralized consensus to work. Skywire doesn't even need a coin - the coin is simply used to incentivize nodes, and the Skywire network would still work just fine without that incentivization.

Also, there is already decentralized consensus, because the immutable ledger is replicated across thousands of nodes. The part not yet decentralized is the block writing, because only the masternode can write blocks into the immutable ledger (until Obelisk is released).

You don't seem to understand the Skycoin ecosystem at all.

Why so angry anon?

I have no problem with others making money through pumps and dumps - there is certainly plenty of scope to profit by riding waves in other coins.

But the Skycoin community is not interested in dumps and dumps. We're here to build the world's most comprehensive blockchain ecosystem, and the world's first global decentralized mesh network.

Skycoin is a bit different to the ERC20 scam tokens and "forks of forks" you normally see shilled here. For us, pumping the coin value is not the primary motivation (although the coin value will ultimately follow development and community growth in the long run).

If short term profit is your only motivator, then I agree you should try to catch some pumps on other coins. Skycoin is playing the long game. This is a platform that is going to be in constant development for the next decade or more, and the community is growing rapidly, so you will be hearing from us a lot on /biz over the coming years.

Better get used to it.
