>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

"Older brother, please take me to the rooftop today as well!" Looking up at me on a wheelchair, it is my sister to say so. There is a definite reason for sister's obsession with going to the roof so far. That should be that, my sister was forced to stay hospitalized because of an unexplained disease that had developed when she was unconscious. It is dangerous to stay out of the reach of a doctor, so you can not leave the hospital. For such a sister, the rooftop of the hospital is the only place where you can feel the exterior world soon. However, hospitalized patients are not permitted to enter there arbitrarily. "Okay, will I go then?" "Yeah!" I never thought I pushed my sister's wheelchair. Make sure there is no one in the aisle and leave the hospital room. "Hold on tight?" I pushed the wheelchair with full speed, crossed the aisle and reached the elevator on the south side of the building where almost nobody used it. "I hope to come soon ..." My sister and I pressed the switch and waited for the elevator while being nervous. "Oh, I came" Safely the elevator arrived at the floor where we are. Then get on the elevator and go up to the 11th floor below the rooftop. It is here that the elevator is passing. Arrived on the 11th floor, fortunately there were no witnesses here either. "Well, I will carry you from here, so hold me, see," Firmly catch up "From this floor to the rooftop are connected by stairs and it will be hard for a wheelchair to climb, so I will hold my sister. "Well, has not it become heavy again?" "I can not say that already!" While I was talking about such a thing, I reached the rooftop. Gacha ... I'm on the rooftop As we opened the door, a pleasant spring breeze passed through between Sue. We enter the rooftop, we sit in a chair and look up at the sky. "My brother, thank you very much!" My sister showed a full smile. Huh, the sky seen from here is really beautiful. While looking up at the sky alone, I remembered that sister.

REFR!!!!

>> No.12977115

I hate that most charts don’t properly/appropriately indicate dilution, reverse splits, and splits. They all work in reverse from the current number of outstanding shares and show crazy, usually unobtainable highs.

Unless I’m understanding it wrong market cap is probably the best indicator of to how much an oversold stock (because of dilution/reverse split) can gap up, right?

So check my math on this: if a company has 10 million outstanding shares at 20 dollars a share, their market cap is 200 million dollars. They issue 10 million more shares at 10 dollars a share (bringing them to 20 million shares). The the stock price declines to 5 dollars a share. Now their market cap is 100 million dollars.
It would be reasonable to predict the price to gap up to 10 after a few good quarters or good PR (assuming that nothing has fundementally charged for their viability as a company).
However it would NOT be reasonable to expect the share price to gap up to 15 (market cap 300 million) without something substantially positive enough to warrant a 50% increase in the company’s total worth, correct?

My two favorites for the week are HEAR and REV.
HEAR has a 63% short interest and has declined 50% from its ATH. With Apex: Legends becoming a fad over the last two months or so, its possible with its squad based nature that lots of people finally bought a headset.

A positive earnings will destroy shorts and they will have to cover leading to a potential 100% swing trade. 20% is easily happening.

Risks are that the earnings are bad which will cause a 20% loss of money. Support 1: 13.53.

REV is of course Revlon. The makeup company recently had some chick financial analyst claim that Revlon was crashing in sales by using Nielsen data. Its got about a 33% short float but here's the catch, its seriously only got like a 7 million float. Its earnings are next week.

My bull thesis is that the data was incompetently derived, that the earnings will show beat and guidance will be positive. If I am correct, the float for longs is just 4.5M leading to a potential 10 point run or more. At least a retrace back to before the news article came out.

yeah Jesus would see GALT as evil for making people PAY to stay alife

Jesus would have no problems with GoPro's eponymous action cameras and development own mobile apps and video-editing software. He would probably be impressed at GoPro's robust line of Cameras that hit any consumers price point needs.

this such meme
there tons of mid range cameras and legitimate uses for them. if anything phone cameras are a fad. phone cameras are proving that they cant replace real cameras

. the best part of GPRO am they can be seen as phone accessories now with all the editing and social media software.

Investopedia and read articles for support, resistance, and trend lines. Always rember that support/resistance are more important than trend. A trend line being broken isn't confirmation if a reversal until an important support or resistance has broken.

Other indicators like RSI, MACD, CCI, and oscillators like stochastics etc should be considered secondary to support/resistance/trend. Learn these basics before dabbling in weirdo stuff like ichimoku, heiken-ashi, smelliot waves, fibonacci blah blahs.

So another week is almost here. Time is ripe to buy our fat Divvy friend T. He's down to under $30 per share with a fat yield of 6.81%! How can you pass up such a tempting Divvy?. The kicker is that it don't take much capital to make him self sustaining, why only $1500 can bag you 3.x whole shares a year! Which only increases exponentially every year. Do this now combined with Drip. After 15 years return and pocket the obscene payout my friends. Then oh my wait till Tax Refund time. Then dump it all on more of him. Watch the payout grow even more! Such Profit Potential should not be ignored. The only question you need to ask is thus: What to do when your ready to kick from this earth? Do you let your greedy children and your bitch of a wife have T and his Divvy? Tell them to fuck off and make there own money I say. I did it the hard way. They'll be ok.

Alos there's probably still some Ebola floating around? And something about outbreaks of preventable disease because people don't trust vaccines.

Scott Pelley: Have you stopped raising rates?

>Jerome Powell: Well, that's a good question. We see the economy as in a good place. We think that the outlook is a favorable one. Inflation is muted and our policy rate we think is in an appropriate place. So what we've said is that we would be patient.

Scott Pelley: What does patient mean?

>Jerome Powell: Patient means that we don't feel any hurry to change our interest rate policy. What-- what's happened in the last 90 or so days is that we've seen increasing evidence of the global economy slowing down, although our own economy has continued to perform well.

Scott Pelley: Where do you see weakness in the U.S. economy?

>Jerome Powell: Generally speaking, the U.S. economy is coming off a very strong year last year. We had growth just a touch-- higher than 3 percent. We have high levels of employment, low levels of unemployment, wages are moving up. Consumer confidence is high, business confidence is high. We've seen a bit of a slowing, But I would say the principal risks to our economy now seem to be coming from slower growth in China and Europe and also risk events such as Brexit.

Here you go buy the dip.

Am I just overthinking the stock market or something? I bought KHC when I thought it was done dipping and it just keeps going down. I know that in the end it's only a matter of whether or not the price goes up or down, but how does a person know whether the price will keep going up or continue going down? It's insane how many strategies exist for these two simple outcomes, and every time I try to look up information my search results are flooded with normie websites shouting BUY THIS STOCK BUY THIS DONT BUY THAT!!!!1 WARREN BUFFETT REEEEE!

Realistically, what do you guys use as a metric to find a company that is a good investment? When you find said company do you typically hold it until a percentage gain/loss, or just HODL even through the bad times? I bought KHC when it dipped and lost about $50 total on it, I don't really care about that but I want to know what I did wrong and how I can learn from this. Right now I'm listening to the intelligent investor while wagecucking, but a lot of what it teaches seems to run antithetical to the approach I see on /biz/ and here on SMG.

That's a good way to look at it, but in a 50 year span I could imagine almost every company eventually dying out with the exception of McDonalds, Google, Microsoft, etc. But I get what you're saying, and essentially your preferred method is long term hold.

Now I have a couple follow up questions. Obviously everyone here so far has made more than I have probably since I'm in the negative and only have been """investing""" for a week. How long have you been investing, what's your % at, and how would you react to a market decline similar to 08? I see many people claim there will be another 2008 soon and I would like to know WHY they say this, large investment risks likely combined with thousands of families filing bankruptcy on their mortgages due to lack of jobs. The housing prices today are insane in the US I don't disagree, but I suppose this is getting off topic. What are your thoughts on this?

>what do you guys use as a metric to find a company that is a good investment?

Is the company's cost of capital more or less than its return on capital?
Is the company even cash-flow positive? So many shareholders fail to check this.
Is the company regularly generating free cash flow? (Net operating cash flow minus capex (investing activities)? Is free cash flow growing or shrinking over time?
Does the company issue new share capital or routinely take on debt? (See question two above)
What are net profit margins doing? Expanding over time, staying flat or declining? The answer may provide some insight into the market environment they operate in.
Is the company spending your capital on corporate acquisitions that get written down (impairment charges) a couple of years later? Is this behavour routine? What does that say about management's capital allocation abilities?
