I've seen people say 2020 at the minimum, however, it seems that we've been copying the choppy sideways motion that preceded 2001 and 2008 for months now. I consider the Dec. drop and Jan. recovery to simply be larger bounces within this sideways pattern.

I've been building up some cash, outside my existing contributions, to buy cheapies. Not really sure if it'd be better to buy index funds following a 20% drop, or individual companies. It seems like buying individual companies before a bottom (which would be found in hindsight) would be risky, as during such a recession, they'd be liable to go bankrupt.
