Wondering about the Adderall as well.

I used to live on 30 minutes to 2 hours a night with 12-14 hour sleep weekends. Picked up Adderall for a while. These days, I need nine hours of sleep to function properly.

Could also be hypomanic. I've worked with guys like him. 50+ and living off of 4-5 hours of sleep and always needing to do something. Gets bored in seconds.

Either way, the candle that burns twice as bright burns out twice as quickly.
