This is kind of what I'm trying to say, even though I'm only 23. But I own my own house with a wife and a kid. So I have 1 nice den to myself and I no longer want to feel like I'm returning to a barren cave anymore. I want nice things to be comfortable in my space. If I were just some college kid renting a small apartment I would say minimalism is the way to go and that's exactly what I did. Fuck the TV. "Everything I live with should fit into my hiking backpack" was the way I thought as a college student. All my childhood stuff stayed at my parents' house, a kind of "home base," in boxes and I lived like that from 18 to 21 before getting married, buying my own home, having a kid, etc. 2017 was a hell of a year.

Honestly I lived like this for a while but now just got redpilled that it's pointless.

You sacrifice and save for decades and then all of a sudden one day it could be pointless. You can drop dead. Your investments can go south, look at crypto. Look at the nikkei that still hasn't recovered from 30 years ago. There can be a massive war.

So now I splurge a little. Went from saving 75% of my income to about 20% now and I've never been happier. Frugal living is a depressing way to live if it isn't out of necessity and there probably just as good a chance it's all for nothing in the end as there is it paying off. A banker, journalist, film producer, etc. will tell you to only eat the bare minimum you need when you kill an animal, but they will eventually fall behind the man who eats a moderate amount of food. Also the fatasses will tell you to eat every last bit because you do not know when the next opportunity to hunt an animal will be, but this excess takes a toll on your body and makes you sluggish.

Spend moderately, save moderately, and you will have a fulfilling life that is not governed by money. How foolish a man would have to be to let money dictate his life any more than absolutely necessary for survival.
