>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

I think it is pretty likely that we'll be above that at some point this year
I think we could run up near or above $7 on technicals alone, the share price has been bouncing off of the long term lower trend line recently, and there's a cup and handle playing out on the 6 month chart (changed it to a line instead of candles to make it more obvious, tradingview made it a bit hard to see in candle mode)

If there's a partnership or BO (very likely, in my opinion), then we'll definitely be well above that
Good luck with the calls, if you do decide to buy them (I personally prefer to stay away from options entirely)

I agree that fundamental catalysts are much more important than technicals
The reason I'm holding GALT is because of the science (its performance in clinical trials being good enough to move onto phase 3 in NASH, as well as have promising performance in a combination trial with Keytruda in melanoma, and the role galectin-3 plays in the development of liver fibrosis, tumor metastasis, and the potential of galectin-3 inhibition to alter the tumor microenvironment in such a way as to allow the immune system to attack cancerous cells)
Recently published FDA guidelines want NASH companies to focus on treating fibrosis and preventing progression to cirrhosis, so I think that companies with clinical trials focusing on liver fat content (like MDGL and VKTX) may suffer as a result of this
Another thing separating GALT from other companies is the niche it's aiming for
Most NASH companies are focusing on noncirrhotic patients with fibrosis, but GALT is specifically focusing on reversing fibrosis and preventing decompensation in patients with compensated NASH cirrhosis
Competitors in the NASH cirrhosis area (Conatus, Gilead) have delivered less than stellar results in clinical trials, and I think that it has a lot of potential in that area, as well as a combination drug in the immuno-oncology area

I'm doing Forex for the most part, and TradersWay have been very good with no problems nor hiccups with gettting trades through.

For stocks, find yourself a good broker with good reviews. Search a little.

I use Nordnet due to the ease of reporting profits/losses for taxes + i'm covered by the national bank insurance if the broker goes tits up. All those pros outweigh the cons, which is a tad dated interface plus somewhat high fees.

that's because nobody actually likes to read that much. very boring and requires attention span, people prefer online stuff quick and more efficient. about 95% of all books are complete trash and intended that way (publisher has contract for 3-5 books at time, like music industry used to have with bands) so writers publish all kinds of trash. most books make negative cash flow too so would have been better not to publish. then there are academics etc. usually worthless people writing books purely to gain more name on themselves not to really even sell well.

Got a plan: bought CTL on the dip (under 15 per). Plan to hold till 30th and let the hype over the recent Zayo buyout rumor carry the stock up. Sell on the 30th for profit. Buy more T stock on the dip from earnings report.

T stock while it remains flat (28 - 32) is a good thing; able to constantly increase my position with ease. They are planning to use 2019 to pay down the debt and focus on 5G. The div is safe. So yes the earning report may not be great far as growth goes but to the survival of the company as a whole and to keep the div safe that's more important. Time Warner division will bring in profit. 5G will bring in profit, the launch of the streaming service will bring in profit. So long term the company will be on a good path.

>Philosophy of the Encounter - Althusser
>The Prince/Discourses - Machiavelli
>Capital - Marx
>The Social Contract - Rousseau
>The Ego and Its Own - Stirner
>Debt The First 5000 Years - Greaber
>The Art of Loving - Erich Fromm
>Leviathan - Hobbes
>Economic History of the USSR - Nove

Out of all these books the Philosophy of the Encounter is the closest to my actual belief system, there is almost nothing of substance I disagree with in there. This list is hardly exhaustive, but it's more the foundational things. There are several thinkers that are more contemporary who I think are fantastic, like Mark Fisher, Slavoj Zizek, Richard Wolff, and Jodi Dean.

Puts are probably the better play for this coming week. NDX and S&P were not convincing on Friday. Morning pump, slight pullback, flatline. I think it will take some good news from the government or fed to sustain short term bullish trend and break the closest resistance.

As for fed, i don't see any reason for them to be dovish next week. They barely pulled back at all from their hike plan in December. Markets bounced hard anyway. It looks like they will stick with the planned two hikes for 2019 now.

Speaking off spinoffs it's getting pretty hard not to FOMO into GE with all the spinoffs they have coming up.

Welch and Immelt conned the markets hard with GE Capital (bad accounting practices, hidden liabilities). They might've gotten away with it if Energy didn't start to shit the bed, but now massive debt + poorly understood financial liability + poorly performing core business = bearish outlook.

Idk tho. I went long around 13-14 because Aviation was dominating their market (and aerospace in general was surging), and I didn't really understand the debt/finance issues. I also took too long to grasp that selling more jet engines doesn't help their cashflow, since all the profit is in parts and services. I'm still hodling, but needless to say it's been a learning experience. Aviation on its own would still be a hell of a stock if not for all of the debt.

>Is anyone else fucking concerned about how many people mostly young millenials pilled into the stock market these past two years?

No and I understand why. Proper full time full benefits jobs or even entry level positions that have a direct pathway to those better jobs are scarce. Whole generation of adults now realizing they can't rely on finding the job that will finance house and family. So, stock market it is. Crypto and weed booms certainly acted as carrot on a stick to bring in more people.

I don't think this is a bad thing is the way of the shoeshine boy giving stock tips, necessarily. A lot of these millennials most likely traded through some of the crypto boom and bust, and the weed boom bust boom bust boom again cycles. They definitely were already in for February and October-December market corrections.

I don't consider this a bad thing if they're sticking it out through ups and downs. More traders on the market means more liquidity. More new and naive traders means more fomo buyers at the key peaks so more experienced traders can exit their positions for max profit without considerable struggle. It does mean more volatility, but that's also good for my purposes. Not so good for the Buffett Hodl school but hey, things change, traders adapt.
