>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, stop making the general with trips, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

They have readouts for multiple clinical trials due this year (Baylor/VA, ELEVATE)
They're also carrying out a trial funded by the NIMH, but I'm not sure when results from that one will be in
There's a lot of science supporting the clinical efficacy of NMDA antagonists, I'm bullish on the pipeline for AV-101 alone (they also have two other Phrein drugs, but I haven't done any reading about them yet)
AV-101 acts on the brain in essentially the same way ketamine does, except it produces fewer side effects and long-term safety concerns, and it's also orally administered, unlike ketamine, which has to be administered via IV
If you look up the science supporting ketamine being effective in treating depression, you'll find a lot of stuff

Leaf markets open tomorrow. Updating stop losses and looking at possible developing short opportunities. Not going short just yet but stops are super tight. No confidence whatsoever in continuation of this speedy bull ascent. Sitting on 45% cash already after Friday profit grabbing.

I'm curious what leaf markets do. It's been a while since leafs were open when burgers were closed. Last time I vaguely remember it being pretty bearish day. Oil/gas is red and I'm thinking that'll probably be the story for TSX in general as well.

Ha! I love doing TA on /smg/ meme stocks. Gave this one the once over.

Overall bullish. You've got a gentle rising trend going since 2016 with a number of pump n' dump spikes along the way. It has recently been rising off that long term lower trend line. Broke above short term falling trend in the last three days. Held the short short term (green line) rising trend line on Friday. RSI is still in neutral healthy range for continuation upwards.

Keep a close eye on the price action around 5.25-5.30 resistance. I would put my stop loss at just a titch under $4.34 right now.

their censorship is completely retarded yes. they aren't fooling anyone.

sadly i suspect it has only gotten worse, ive started to see a lot of comics with not just 1 black bar on the guy's dick but 10 black bars. it's extremely annoying because it stands out from the rest of the scene.

it's gotten so bad that the guy is using a strap-on in porn when the girl is giving "him" a blowjob. i mean clearly the censorship is not helping japan to NOT do these things so what's the god damned point?

Not exactly. There is always slight variation. Because the US side has significantly more volume, any difference today between the two will tend to get hashed out in the first hour tomorrow if not in premarket. US market almost always dictates the direction of the Canadian. On these days when one is closed and the other open, i look for price movement on low volume outside the average sentiment on a stock. It's occasionally a good time to take profit or buy undervalued shares.

Not seeing much in the way of setups so far. Took profit on GOOS this morning as it's looking like red for the remainder of the day.

depends on when you want to retire. I plan on retiring before 59.5, so I wouldn't be able to touch my Roth IRA for 15 years or so.

Dividends are taxed at 15 percent (usually) when they're qualified. All but one stock I own has qualified dividends.

You need to keep with it though if that's your plan. It may seem like small increases but after a few years you see increased capital plus increased dividends produced significant amounts of money.

Going from 1000 per year and 1000 per month in the span 5-7 years is amazing. you do have to save a lot but once the snowball starts rolling. it doesn't stop. Safe, reliable dividends. If you're starting out this year, I'd recommend just buying the Dogs of the Dow for 2019 and then growing it from there.

My dividend portfolio is as follows:

AAPL, CSCO, DOC, IBM, IP, IRM, ITW, JNJ, JPM, KHC, KO, LOW, MO, MSFT, NOK, O, PFE, PG, PSX, SBUX, T, V, VZ

Index funds.

Real estate is really hard to beat the stock market. You need to put in a lot of research and patience in finding a property that will provide a strong enough return that after repairs, etc., beats the market. Plus, there's the extra time and stress of owning the rental property--even if you have a management company handle things (which eats into your profit), there's both little and large things that could pop up that could stress you out (you could get sued, etc.).

Small side business is the worst form of investment. If you want your career to be owning your own business, great but be prepared to fail a couple of times before you make any sort of success. It's a trial and error process. And any initial startup money you throw in will be lost if/when you fail on the first attempt.

Opening an IRA and taxable brokerage accounts takes almost no effort--just need to learn the layout of the website of the company you end up going with. Investing into index funds is easy, no stress/hassle, and provides the most consistent return.

If you both can't do that and have such extreme anxiety that it ignores reason leading to a significant chance of selling during a downturn, then yeah I guess in that scenario you might want to look into other methods of investing. KO is my largest position and my yield on cost is high enough to where I'll never sell it unless the divvy goes away. my family will inherit that stock and then likely never sell it. I don't know much about KDP but if I buy another beverage company its going to be PEP due to its snack branding.

T and MO are two of my high yield stocks. I think both will grow over the next decade.

I've often thought about investing in DIS but I don't know enough about their business model to invest (i.e. where their revenue streams and growth come from) and I'm an avid comic fan (mostly DC though).

DIS is on my watchlist and I'll add KDP. However my next positions will likely be ED, BA and then MMM and TXN, then building up my current positions with most focusing on PG, JNJ and AAPL (at its current price)

Pay towards supervisory workers has been what's absorbed most of the gains in capital productivity and cheaper low skilled labor, CEOs are just one highly visible facet of this. They are literally imposing so much rent that the rate of profit hasn't recovered from it's lows in the crisis of profitability in the 70s.

This pay does work its way back into the price of equities, however, by raising the demand for investment grade assets (as those at higher incomes tend to save and invest a greater portion of their income).

>Wages are made up of wages of ‘production workers’ (around 82% of non-farm employees) and wages of ‘supervisory workers’, or W(pn) and W(s) respectively. A ‘production worker’ is one who has no supervisory responsibilities, and is a category defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) of the US Department of Labor (1994); ‘supervisory workers’ are constructed as the difference between total employees in employment and production workers. If the major divisions of the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) are classified in terms of the classical categories of ‘unproductive’ [circulation activities (wholesale and retail trade, finance, insurance and real estate, legal services, most business services, some miscellaneous professional services) and general government] and ‘productive’ (all other activities), then production worker wages are the sum of the wages of production workers in productive sectors, denoted W(pn, p), and the wages of production workers in unproductive sectors, denoted W(pn, u).
Yes, it includes everyone in management, as well as is those white collar jobs which only serve to facilitate circulation of capital. Some of these things are a necessary result of globalization (you need a lot of derivative contracts and thus finance/insurance workers to have an international presence), but it is also a symptom of many large contemporary firms becoming simultaneously more feudal and post-modern in nature. These workers exist only to exert more sophisticated methods of control over productive workers, or as status symbols for executives.

>capitalism doesn't require force
You see that's the biggest meme I've ever heard and you should know here of all places how painfully obvious of a falsehood that is.

Make a thread right now complaining about your own wage slavery every one will understand. Make a thread complaining about taxes, intellectual property, or civil asset forfeiture the same thing.

For profit prisons, the state enforcement of property and corporate law, ect, all really existing capitalism. Nor is the black market a utopian escape from force by leaving the watchful presence of the state, the sheer amount of interpersonal violence at the heart of underground loans, drug dealing and other rackets tells you all you need to know.

I do not claim communism is some perfect realization of an ethical system, but at the very least no one would have to sell their labor to survive.

capitalism doesn't require force in the free market. Society requires taxes, but taxes through capitalism, which create a profit, is sustainable. Communism and socialism don't create profits because they're wholly inefficient.

>wage slavery
you don't understand the term slavery then. Wage slavery doesn't exist in the US. You are not forced to do anything. And unlike communism, when you refuse to do work they don't throw you in a gulag because it isn't against the law to refuse to work in capitalism. It just narrows your choices a bit, but at least its a choice

>no one would have to sell their labor to survive?
so if no one works, how are things produced that are necessary for survival? what a derp comment you provided there

Should I continue holding my money and wait for the recession, or just bite the bullet and jump into the market? I'm starting to think slow growth may be the rule and not the exception for the next couple of years at least

> Communism and socialism don't create profits because they're wholly inefficient.
The Soviet Union oversaw the period of some of the fastest and most immense economic growth in history during the 1930s.

>Wage slavery doesn't exist in the US.
Go tell that to all the US posters saying otherwise on this very board.

>so if no one works, how are things produced that are necessary for survival?
There are other ways to induce discipline other than threatening someone's entire existence.

I think you're still a bit too stuck in the framework of capitalist buying and selling as the basis of national accounting. All that's necessary for people to not be required to work to survive is for enough surplus production of necessities be created to maintain the current population. Beyond that all manner of schemes of production and distribution are possible, and the actually labor required for that surplus is not that large in the grand scheme of things.

Put your money in a bond or CD for a year, we'll probably have had a recession by then at which time you can jump into the market. Don't bite the bullet, but also don't loose money to inflation.

My original point is that they would not be selling their labor to survive. I intentionally left it open as to whether or not they would still be selling their labor because I don't know exactly what the system of production will look like. However, this demand of eliminating poverty and wage slavery has been coming to a head for a long time. Whether it's resolved with socialized food production and housing, or UBI, or some other kind of program, I don't know. I don't see, however, how any system that comes after capitalism via working class political action wouldn't result in that outcome.

This. Who the fucks needs hundreds of brands of perfumes, Thousands of different models of shoes, restaurants everywhere, dozens of new car models every year, the same smartphones (same hardware) but with a different casing each year, computers sold 3 times their actual price (macintosh), lots of meat, thousands of available wristwatches, clothes, planned obsolescence, stupid movies and tvshows etc.. etc...

We could produce and live well with at least 2 times less work.

Locke's property theory has always existed before it was explained. You do work in order to survive. Your work creates your property that you can choose to exchange your property or services for another's.

Do you guys have any thoughts on modern monetary theory? I came to most of the conclusions of the theory by myself, and just found out it had a name when reading an article on Ocasio Cortez, and was surprised she subcribed to it. It seems to explain a lot though, for instance it explains why both US parties increase the debt when they have power, and why Greece and Puerto Rico are fucked for example. Anyway, the crux of the theory is that as long as a soveriegn countries debt is denominated in a currency they issue, their debt is essentially meaningless.

So in primitive tribes before the neolitic revolution, or in primitive tribes still existing today, if i'm a member of a primitive tribe, and want to eat from the last hunt, i have to give something in exchange?
If i'm hurt somewhere, i have to give my bow to the healer for him to heal me?

AOC is a smart politician, but no, MMT has many problems. You cannot escape the fact that the real economy of value added production is what debt is evaluated against, and if you simply increased taxes to mop up liquidity the way MMT theorists described you'd have essentially squared the circle of how to coerce production to meet needs regardless of the logic of commodity production. Meaning that you wouldn't be able to pull it off unless you've actually defeated capitalist class political power in the first place. At which point, why go all the trouble of using monetary policy to do all these things instead of directly coordinating production.
