Yup, its done through the backend. Each platform that utilises Ink Protocol is required to hold a pool of XNK to facilitate transactions through the smart contract.

You guys are missing the big picture here, this project is bringing decentralised, self sovereign reputation to everyone. As well as becoming a streamlined way of transacting P2P with crypto AND fiat, it will give people the ability to transfer their rep to any ecommerce or physical marketplace.
Even if you don't care about the token, the project itself has a great future and it's well worth looking into
