Hashrate coming from unknown pools is currently sitting at exactly 49%, up from like 20% over the past week or two. It's unlikely that it's all coming from one organized group but still... kind of unsettling.
>>12404372
I've been worried about it for a while. Huge previously ETH-based GPU farms could have taken advantage of Monero's hashrate for a while now if they wanted to. Looks like either that's happening right now or something else is going on. Back of the envelope math on the amount of money it would take to 51% attack Monero would be on the order of 50-100 million USD plus ongoing power costs. A lot of money but also not such an insane amount that it's unbelievable, plus if someone already has the GPU hardware...
Either that or they are new ASICs or FPGAs coming online.
>>12404394
Not specifically the privacy aspects, but someone malicious could cause double spends to scam people or exchanges which would obviously compromise the entire blockchain's reason for existing.

Sorry, been testing my FPGA farm. Peaks are around 110 MH/s.

Also, there might only be 10 MH/s on Nicehash immediately, but if you create a higher priced bid then miners will auto-switch over if they use NHM or other profit-switching mining software.
