Send them an invoice for wasting your time. You never stood a chance and they should have told you.

Charge them contractors rate, $70 per hour. Include gas costs.
Pursue it through courts if they don't pay, doing your own research and legal work. You haven't got much else to do, will be a fun learning experience to make them suffer as you have.

As someone with mostly public sector experience, this concerns me...
Then again, why did you want to leave the public sector Anon... There are local, state, and federal jobs across many agencies... Think about your pension...

Not the guy you’re talking to, but I’ve got a security job, it’s easy as shit. There are many different types of security. I would never want to be a bouncer outside a club getting into fights with drunk pricks, fuck that. But there are plenty of security jobs where you’re behind a desk checking people’s passes as they enter a building. I’m at an airport, I swipe people as they enter the screening area, sometimes send people back outside to take off their shoes/belt/watch and occasionally confiscate scissors, knives and shit that people forgot were in their bags. It’s boring, but there is never any trouble. Police are less than a minute away too. Not all security is dangerous.
