Would you wageslave for 16 hours a day for a short time to make a lot of money?

I'm 23, 6 months out of college with an engineering degree. I make 65k as a construction inspector working full time 7am to 3pm M through F for a government agency. Recently, a small company found me on Indeed and is offering me 55k to be a construction inspector as well, for a night shift. M-F 10pm to 6am.

Would you work 2 full time jobs?
There are horrible hours, but on the other hand I'd be making about 120k, 84k after taxes. I figure I could do this for 1 or 1.5 years before I get burnt out. Save up money to put into crypto and a house down payment

What would you do in my shoes?

Hop on indeed and start typing, bucko. At the height of my search I was submitting 10-15 applications a day, I must've applied for damn near 500 jobs

Do it, but put your money 20% in CURE, 20% in TQQQ and 60% in VYM.
Maybe put like 10% in BTC and 5% in some altcoins. But if you are working your ass off for that money, don't risk all of it in Crypto.
Hell, you should probably just do that for 3 years, throw every cent you make into an REIT, and retire. 84k x 3 = 252K. NRZ is an REIT currently paying 14% a year. Considering the fact that their stock price will go up over 3 years, you'll be able to retire and get 40k/year income forever. Or even the work a part time job so you can reinvest your dividends and 5 years later (8 years from now), you'd be making around 100k/yr from passive income.

>> No.12261550

Absolutely not. Your health will deteriorate greatly if you did that for even 2 months. Working from essentially 10pm to 3pm for 84k is horrible. Christ, do americans always get paid this shit? I make like 50k USD working 35 hours/week in retail in Australia.

You'd want to kill yourself after 2 weeks, and end up quitting both jobs.
Don't do it

Nah. I worked it out. I'd be leaving the house at 9:30pm, getting to 2nd job at 6:20. I'd nap in the morning for 40 min or so. Get home around 3:30. With eating I'd have a good 5 hours of sleep.

>>12261550
55k and 65k for my age are both considered pretty good salaries. Not great but decent. Kids my age are happy to get a 40k job

>>12261552
Part of me wants to try for at least a month to see if it's doable or not. But I also don't want to be a dick and say yes to them only to end up quitting 3 weeks later. I'd feel like a douche for wasting their time training me and having to find someone new etc

>> No.12261598

instead of me doing the math, you do the math
determine if you want to wage slave until your lifeforce is exhausted in a meager 2 years for literally maybe 30k per year post tax (do the math, your second job all falls into your highest tax bracket)

If you want a smart person's opinion, you should segue your extra energy into a building a business system that can separate your time from your value creation

read fastlane millionaire, 4 hour work week, and story brand to help you there

>> No.12261613

>>12261585
Yes but they aren't really 55k and 65k. You're only getting 84k so you're going to be working 80 hours a week for 84k. That means you're getting paid like $20 USD an hour to work with an engineering degree. That is fucking horrible and working 80 hours is only going to really show how awful that is. I make more than that per hour in retail. That's how bad it is.

Well that's 84k after taxes. Everyone likes to use gross income, 120k. Math on that comes to 28 an hour. Not great, you're right. But the only way I can bring in that much money. Engineers don't start making 80-100k until at least 5 or 10 years experience.

You're an inspector, it's not physical labor.

Before I got my EE degree I worked as a piece rate electrician pulling wire and running conduit. Many 14+ hour days but I made roughly the same as you. Point is, it's worth it for a short period of time and in your case it's not as bad as it sounds.

I left a comfy 50k a year job in the Midwest (low CoL area), which I had worked for 2 years after college, to take on management position at a factory with overtime pay that would have boosted me to 80-100k a year in the same place (75+ hour weeks not including lunch break).

I put in my resignation after 3 months. Your health and sanity will deteriorate if you do not live and breath your job. I had to live off fast food and monsters because I was too tired to cook my meals or hit the gym.

The only time people actually make a lifestyle like that work is when either a) they own the company, or b) know they're suffering for a reason (wall street to private equity).

That's another thingi was thinking. My work isn't hard. I'm sure i could grab quick naps in my car during the day, and make up sleep on the weekends.

I think I'll try it for at least 6 months. Definitely can't keep this up for years and years, but for a short time it'll be a big boost to my bank account

I don't think it's worth it, but if STHF, then you can just drop the second job in an instant and just stick with your first job.

Is the other company aware that you'd be moonlighting? I'm not saying show your hands, but just curious if you told them already and if they know then they will know the risks. Otherwise, you can probably negotiate for a contract position so you can see if you want to keep this up 6 months down the road.

You probably already know this, but we have a progressive income tax system. So you get diminishing returns the more money you make. Basically, you'll be working 2 jobs but only getting the income for "1.5 jobs" if that makes sense.

>> No.12261687

>>12261668
No i have not told them about my other job. And I assumed for taxes id just be in a higher tax bracket for having made over 100k in a year. I thought they just look at total money made and not where it comes from. I gave myself a 30% rate when I did that math (right now I'm taxes 26%) but it will probably be higher. Maybe as much as 36%

>I think I'll try it for at least 6 months.

Set that as your goal and don't stop short of it. There's going to be days that you want to quit one of those jobs. You'll be tired, hungry, in a pissy mood thinking of how you have no life. Resist the urge to break your goal, you'll be better for it in the end and your bank account won't be too shabby either.

You shouldn't get ahead of yourself. They will ask and certain jobs have stipulations against moonlighting. Even if you lie to them, they will find out through background check.

I would play your young age to your advantage and just play dumb. Don't mention about your other job unless they bring it up, but there's a high chance either in the interview or the sign-up form that there'll be some clause regarding moonlighting, so be sure to read any documents you sign carefully. Again, never lie.

>> No.12261763

If you asked this working as some bullshit job with no hazards id say go for it. You are going to be a construction inspector though, you dont want to get into some dumb accident due to sleep deprivation...

I did this shit with 1 meme and 1 bartender job. Went ok for about 2, maybe 3 months then one day I just collapsed on my bartender job. That could have been ugly if I were at a construction site.

Your time is actually worth a lot more than the 55k you'd be getting from the second job.
If you're unhappy with the pay from the first job, you're better served using any spare time you have replacing it, not complimenting it.
Assuming you don't burn out (you will), you will have wasted so much time and have nothing to show for it but an extra 60-70k (after a generous 2 years), which is nothing. If you're making 65k now, you could easily leap into a 75-80k job. Higher after spending 1-2 years at your current work.
