Farm Bill 2018 edition

Congress is voting on Farm Bill this afternoon. Senate passed yesterday.

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Doesn’t this same risk apply with any brokerage firm though? It just happened to hit robinhood, but any centralized brokerage service must be susceptible to the same “muh errors” problem, even if it doesn’t occur very often in practice. Personally, I haven’t had any problems with robinhood whatsoever until today (with about 1 year as a user), but today could have been a big problem, I’m just lucky that it wasn’t. If I had more money on the line , today would be enough for me to look elsewhere. Sadly, this is in my price range, so I suppose I also have to pay for a bit more of risk. This is pretty shady though, brokerage services are a mess and screw everybody, I don’t think I’ll ever fully understand the purpose or necessity of middleman brokerage services when we have the internet and ability to trustlessly verify contracts / underlying source code.
Anyway, blog post over. sorry for the rant.

This has happened multiple times this year alone. ustocktrade had 1 or 2 as well.

Continued profit taking on MPX Bioceuticals this morning. Still have a little bit of that position left. May reenter if it goes in to bull flag pattern rather than tipping off resistance as it did yesterday and today.

Entered position on Green Thumb Industries. Broke out this morning. Closely watching Aleafia for signs of trend reversal (no position yet).

Curaleaf and Cresco Labs doing fab. Canopy Growth broke out yesterday and consolidating today, neutral for now. I'd like to see Canopy hold 43.50(CAN) for close but it's not critical.

So according to the yield curve we should be going into a bad downturn sometime next year. Are you guys going to hold until it gets better or is there a way to make money during pure red?

That's true, I can see the value of not holding onto stocks for too long if you're in a situation where you aren't always lucid enough to actively manage your investments

I do still think that holding is best for most people in the long term, though
Most people who put money in the stock market aren't willing to take the time to get good at TA and do the research you need to do on a daily basis to be a successful day trader
Position trading/long-term investing is easier, less stressful, and just as profitable in the long term (usually more, if you're considering the fact that most short term retail traders make decisions based on panic and emotions)

come to think of it, that whole post was kind of dumb
if you were in a situation where you couldn't manage your money randomly, then the best option would be to just hodl index funds long term
there's no guarantee that the periods where you weren't able to manage your investments would smoothly begin and end while the markets are, and if you became incapacitated during market hours, you would be stuck with a position that you didn't mean to hold for longer than a day for an indeterminate period of time

Actually its smart to space your trades out sometimes. You can grab some great deals during a dip. Or increase your share count cheaper. That's what I did with CTL; waited til it fell then I bought 24 shares cheap. Now I make enough via Div payouts and Drip for it to be "self sustaining". Each year I'll add 2 whole shares via payout (and the fat div that comes with them)

So many stocks/funds. Many will serve you well, some will turn around and cost you everything. Sometimes it's just better to just pick one or two funds plus a few stocks and be done with it. Hold them, the payoff long term will be higher, especially if these stocks are in companies with healthy bank accounts. This is really true with investors with small startup capital, to get the biggest bang for your dollar an index fund or broad market etf is best. just my 02.

I got into stocks because I wanted to own my own apartment, but the more I think about it, wouldn't it be better to keep the money in stocks and use some of the returns for paying for rent?

I mean, sure, your apartment *might* increase more than 7% per year, but the housing market might also crash again.

Also, if you have to cash out on potential housing market gains, you'll sell at ATH for optimal gains, but then you'll need to buy again to get another apt at ATH yet again.

So either. Keep renting, use dividends/returns to pay for rent

or

buy flat when cheap, sell at ATH and go back to renting?

I'm undecided.

Haha. Yeah, Canadian exchange so they can use anything not already taken in Canada. US doesn't count. This leads to funny mixups sometimes though. I used the last housing shit fest to my advantage. Used the owners own situation to my advantage also. Net result was a 3b, 1 & 1/2 bath house w/garage,basement,nice size yard and rear deck for chump change (comparatively speaking). They'd remodeled it, spent 15k (guess) on tile work alone. Even has a gas fireplace w/tile surround in the living room. As a bonus they tossed in a huge 65" HD set that weighed 200 lbs (still worked;lasted me 3 yrs before it died)

I never look at the dow but i am sure it mirrors the s&p500 so i can tell you your ta is correct. However on monday we broke through the lows that happen in oct and nov. this is essential the third time in the past two months we have rammed into the bottom of our support.

If the trade stuff contiunes to be postive and the fed tilts dovish and global markets stop going down, then this support might hold.

But any more weaker than expected growth and I believe we will break to new 52 week lows.

Looking at the xlf, aapl, and db and this market just seem broke. The fact that eem is holding its bottem gives me hope tho.
