>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Wick below support then hop back above intraday is a neutral to potentially bullish indicator. If s&p closes above 2630ish today, expect bulls to show up tomorrow to see what the story is. It is much the same as a nominal higher high on the peak of a bull run. If power hour goes sour and closes around low of day, that'll be bearish confirmation.

By the looks of things it seems bears have run out of steam. There isn't enough selling, too many people holding, support won't break without a new catalyst. Probably.

Buy it nya.

LOL

"The US Attorney is alleging that Guy Gentile used his position as a broker dealer to execute a $17,000,000 stock fraud. Specifically, he used his access to customer funds and customer accounts to orchestrate the appearance that there was massive buying pressure for two fraudulent penny stock companies named Raven Gold Corporation and Kentucky USA Energy Inc.

The appearance of this heavy buying pressure, working in tandem with fraudulent mass mailings touting these companies created enough upward price momentum that Guy Gentile was able to unload his unregistered shares for what is alleged to be several million dollars in trading profits."

Incorrect. CBD and industrial hemp are going to be a big deal initially while profit margins are high due to limited number of producers. US Farm Bill has federal hemp legalization included, which is bullish for CBD as well. When it officially passes, most companies focusing on these products will get a healthy boost to share price. Hopefully it passes this week. It'll be January probably if they can't get it done before end of day Friday.

"immigrants" are great, and USA is still the number one destination of immigrants in the world, by far

the key thing is to be legal, so that you work for the minimum wage

Illegal immigrants (and the people who willingly employ them) should not be allowed to stay, they throw off a supply and demand curve if they work below minimum wage, making the demand for minimum wage and wages on the low end lose out on employment

all so that middle class, and upper class, can enjoy cheaper goods made by illegal labor (mostly produce, or entry level service industries)

ill agree that the legal immigration laws are too byzantine and need a reworking, possibly to allow more legal immigrants in that we currently do

but encouraging illegal immigration hurts poor legal citizens the most, and since countries still exist, shouldnt the american government prioritize improving the lives of its own citizens, over foreign citizens?

Reminder: If your wanting to get Disney but don't want to shell out $112 per share, bag Fox for $49 per and get Dis via the backdoor once the deal closes. But this opportunity will end Jan 1. That's when this deal is done. Ratio; 1 Fox = 0.33 Dis IF by Jan 1 Dis is over 112 per. If Dis takes a dive to under $100 then the ratio is 0.40. My take: Cheap way to bag Dis. Combined with Drip you can either add to current Dis holdings cheaply or get Dis just starting out. Once trading day is over at 4 pm on Jan 1 whatever the final share price is that's what will determine which ratio is used.

This is a non-sequitor, all I was saying was that immigrants are being mistreated by the government.

I'm against importing workers from undeveloped countries to developed ones to provide cheap labor to capital. However, it should be noted, the reason immigrants drive down wages is not because they increase the supply of labor. Domestically born workers largely don't compete for jobs below the minimum, no matter how much you increase the supply of domestic labor, the fact that there is already a reserve army of unemployed people's means that low skilled jobs are already at their natural minimum wage for those people.

Rather, the natural minimum for workers from underdeveloped countries is simply lower for those of developed countries because that limit is determined by the bare minimum of value in commodities required to reproduce that labor. This is something that is largely determined by habit and custom. Workers in underdeveloped countries actually consume less, due to the habits they have that are informed by the development of their class. these habits don't immediately change when they shift countries, and so capitalists can import them and pay them less. In many ways it's the worst of both worlds as it means 3rd world countries are receiving less development and workers in the first world are being subverted.

The solution to this is to document the workers already here to prevent capitalists from circumventing international law, and have a more even level of international development, so foreign workers no longer undercut domestic ones.

GE down again today. under the $7 mark. Looks like that $5 per share crack I've been making may indeed come true after all. GE, now represents a big long term gamble. The value you'll gain from the spinoffs is huge; the GE Transportation selloff to Wabtech is one such deal. W is selling for $90ish per share. GE shareholders will gain a stake in W upon deal closure. GE will keep a small stake in this venture as well. So your going to be getting a slice of W for only $7 per instead of $90 per. What the share ratio will be has yet to be determined but still I'd rather only pay $7 myself. This is only one spinoff/selloff. More is planned. The end game is 4 total. So to recap; $7 per GE share will give you 5 companies stock at the end. (BHGE,W, GE, Plus the other spinoffs). A hell of a bargain.

No shit, the process took a long fucking time. But just for the sake of explaining it..

I had my american friend set up a thai limited company because Thailand and the US has some sort of agreement that makes it possible for americans to own more than 50% of the company's shares. But something happened so I had to do that shit myself and my friend that lives there (the old friend) had to talk to the immigration office on my behalf which then agreed to monitor my company, in return to have a some sort of watchdog watching our activity.. "closely".
We agreed and when I now owned over 50% of the company shares my friend hired a legal agency in Thailand that pretty much told the watchdog to GTFO after a needed time period of 3 months or whatever it was. The time went by, they left which the agency made sure and now I'm free to buy whatever (almost).

short term capital gains rates apply to holdings < 1 year and long term capital gains rates apply to holdings > 1 year. therefore, you would sell your older lots that are subject to the long term rate rather than the short term rate.
however, if you have multiple long term capital gains lots, you should only sell what you need - i.e. not necessarily the oldest lot (just one that is at least 1 year old). you want to defer recognition of gains as long as possible, so that you accrue wealth using tax-deferred unrealized gains.

there's way too much technical analysis in this thread.
you should note that according to basically all modern finance and portfolio management research, markets are considered efficient, and efficient markets mean that prices reflect news. technical analysis assumes that prices are not impounding market news (i.e. that there's news such as 'head and shoulders' that isn't being incorporated into the share price). yet, share prices react immediately to earnings releases. they react immediately to good news and they react immediately to bad news. to assume that there's a visual trend that's not being incorporated into the price is to argue against market efficiency, which is a bold, but arguably stupid, wager.
markets are a reflection of future assumptions, yes. but those are already intrinsically reflected in the security's price. saying technical analysis measures sentiment rather than security price is meaningless. they are the same.
2 cents.

It depends, but generally you want to sell the highest cost or more recent shares first, essentially pushing the gains back until later.

I've used LIFO to maintain a core position, all the way to long term gains, while trying to swing trade extra shares in/out around it.

I use FIFO when I've averaged down into a position over significant time, and want to start reducing again.

One important thing is that if you've recorded a short-term loss and are sitting on a longterm gain, you're kind of wasting the benefit to record the longterm gain. Although it's an even bigger waste to sit on a declining investment because you want to delay recording gains. Treat dodging taxes as a potential bonus, not your top priority.

our answers reflect different objectives. mine is to free up the most efficient after-tax dollars. yours it to maintain the most tax-efficient holdings. really, it depends on what s/he needs the liquidity for and what their intended holding period for the remaining shares is.

but dodging taxes is not a potential bonus nor top priority. maximizing after-tax returns is. there's no reason to recognize that long-term gain since the short-term loss will carry forward. also, short term losses and short term gains match up before short term losses and long term gains, so if you're looking to get out of a short term position with gains, you should do that before the long term.

I suggest you research algo trading more yourself, anon. Algos have changed the stock market considerably as they can trade at extremely fast volume making tiny gains on thousands of trades in a session. That all adds up. However, like most naysayers of TA, you don't seem to understand that it ISN'T a strict science. It can't be, as the market would simply change strategy to invalidate it if it ever was. TA is primarily about statistical probability rather than precision predictor of outcome. The idea is to arrange a trade such that your risks are appropriately balanced against the outcome you are anticipating, and provide a framework for exiting the trade without a substantial loss should your initial theory prove to be incorrect.

Hey x7 friend.
Yesterday I bought Calls for DAX and a PUT for DJ, sold DAX CALL today and bought DAX PUT. Currently I have put positions in DJ and DAX. What do you think?

What's your current position?

Well it seems like we follow different things, but I'm assuming our positions are against each other.
Bought and held SPY 262 calls expiring this Friday

It's exciting to see what will happen. Some days you win, some days you lose.

I'm usually never excited. Usually it's either make a prediction and its right and I'm just satisfied, or things go against my position which makes it not so exciting and I exit my position to re-analyze.
Having price movement going in favor of my position and having big movement I didn't predict on it is exciting tho, but that doesn't happen that much.

Like yesterday I thought that it would go down a bit and eventually come back up based on a pattern I saw SPY doing, but I didn't expect it to go down that far which made me uneasy because I didn't know if I was right anymore.

It did eventually come back up, though. It also made a longer lower wick so I felt confident and bought calls.

When should I exit volatile stocks? lets say AMD? I bought in at $20 3 months ago and I'm feeling that it can go gown to 15 or lower very easily.

For me it's somehow like a game. It makes fun to be right and leading like in Mario Kart.

Most times I trade the DAX. Yesterday I awaited a "little" testing, that's why I had Calls. But today it seems to be a pretty strong uplift.

Yes it does feel a bit like a game, but I only celebrate after I win, not while I'm playing.
And losing here feels much worse than losing in a video game.
That's why I choose not to celebrate early and to not be so stubborn about thinking my predictions are always right.
Celebrating early has leads to overconfidence which can make you lose, just like in real life sports and in video games because you let your guard down.
Its only fun once you actually get out with a profit. Even if you are in the lead, gotta stay focused.

You are completely right. As you can see I'm pretty new to all this, I only traded crypto before. I somehow cannot control my joy, because there were times I lost a huge amount for my little stack and it seems to me miraculous that now I have some profits.

I have to go! Have a nice day!

They're talking about known probabilities and Gambling stakes. Not risking more than 2% sounds close to the Kelly criterion which is a method of risk control used mainly for sports betting. It's probably meant to refer to options trades.
