>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

It ain't that simple. Yes you may own a majority (or all the shares) but the controlling power still rests with the board/ceo. Depending on share class you can however vote during meetings for board members, etc. So you can influence how the company does things even if you own just 1 or 50 shares. Some companies limit the voting class shares to only high level employees so that way the "common" folk can't turn around and hi jack the company.

Yep. If you see a stock that says "subordinate voting shares" that's what that means. Usually you can still vote on stuff with those but your vote doesn't count as much per share. It's setup like this so subordinate shares can't add up to majority even if they all vote unanimously. This is somewhat common on small cap startups.

This is why the google (and FB) will never be sold or the way the company does things will never change. Cause no one other than the founders have the voting power. The founders would have to retire, die, or something drastic before anything changed.

True but if you want to be a trader, you have to trade to learn. With money. And not a small amount. It has to be enough that losses hurt, uncertainty plays tricks with your mind, and gains make you euphoric to the point that you think you're a genius now and can do no wrong. You can learn TA and math and accounting and what have you from books and tutorials. The psychological aspect of trading can only be learned when you're deep in the shit yourself.

>gains make you euphoric to the point that you think you're a genius now and can do no wrong
This is kind of why I'm glad, in a twisted sense, that I got into the stock market this year instead of in the beginning of 2017. That year-long bullrun would've caused me to become complacent, and it would've given me a false sense of my abilities. I got JUST'd hard twice this year: once in February and then again in October. I am keenly aware of how much I suck at it.

>> No.11969211

Similar experience for me as well. I started in 2015, things were going pretty well, bull market ensured my mistakes were recoverable pretty quickly, all going good, then 2016 and holy shit I was not prepared for that. It was a really important learning year for me and I think i've been able to handle this years volatility much better because of that earlier experience.

A lot of research on how to trade, running simulations to figure out a strategy that worked best for how i wanted to trade, keeping a log of my trades to have a record of my thought process so i could then look back on it later and pick out what part of my strategy at the time lead me the wrong way.

Just a lot of work. Learning how to hedge. Learning how to risk manage. Learning how to stop doing stupid emotional trades. From my phone. When i'm half asleep in bed at market open. Not even looking at charts.

The current stock price is the last price a number of shares were bought/sold for. There is a ledger of limit buy and limit sell (bid/ask) orders people have placed; a certain amount of people want to buy at 5, more want to buy at 4. Certain amount want to sell at six, others want to sell for 7. If someone market sells, their order will be filled at the highest bid; in this example, highest bid is 5, so market seller sells for 5. Stock price is now 5. However, if market seller wants to sell more shares than there are bids for 5, some of his order will fill at 4 after all the 5 bids are gone.

If you have a lot of people wanting to buy and fewer people wanting to sell, the shares available to be bought will quickly change hands at the lower prices until none are left, buyers start in on the more expensive sell orders, sellers will raise the price due to this buying demand in order to get more profit.

Now, you can calculate a rough "fair value" of a particular stock based on earnings/revenue/market cap but things rarely trade right at their theoretical fair value. The idea is to identify stocks trading below fair value (often factoring in future potential) in expectation that share price will rise from good news releases and good earnings reports. Good news and good earnings increase demand for shares, people buy a lot, price goes up.

Idk.. I think it would be fun.. I hate the whole dinner and a movie thing too... I rather go shoot a game of pool or go to some recent thing going on.. in your case the ice skating. This gives a way to talk.. ice skating is a good way to "break the ice"

Its an active attempt to save markets from both sides. I would not surprised to see development on IP theft and if we are lucky they buy some more veggies. We knock tariffs back down and give them loads of money to "invest in their economy" an initiative Xi has been working on for a while. To bring investors to China, then both people pretend its enough to declare victory. Thats the literal best case scenario, but not that unlikely.

The Latest on President Donald Trump at the Group of 20 summit (all times local):

11:25 p.m.

The White House says President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have reached a 90-day ceasefire agreement on new economic tariffs to allow for continuing trade negotiations.

The two met for dinner in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Saturday as they sought to de-escalate a trade war.

Among the key U.S. demands articulated by Kudlow and other officials are a halt in what the administration calls widespread intellectual property theft and forced transfer of technology by China. If the two sides fail to reach a deal, Trump said he will also impose tariffs of either 10 percent or 25 percent on the remaining $267 billion in annual U.S. trade with China.

Press secretary Sarah Sanders says Trump has agreed not to raise U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports as scheduled on Jan. 1. She added that the two countries will "immediately begin negotiations on structural changes" around intellectual property protections, cybertheft and other U.S. priorities.

According to the terms of the deal outlined by the White House, the US will not ratchet up tariffs on more than $200bn of Chinese goods from 10 per cent to 25 per cent in January, as had been planned.

Meanwhile, China would move to purchase a“very substantial” amount of farm, energy and industrial goods, though the amount was not specified, in order to reduce the trade gap with the US.The US also said the two countries would begin negotiations to resolve some of the thorniest issues in their economic relationship, like alleged intellectual property theft and the forced transfer of technology. They set a deadline of three months for those talks, with failure resulting in a new escalation of tariffs.
