Bitcoin is a commodity in the way an 8track is a commodity, not like how oil is a commodity. Commodities can become worthless if people no longer find a use for them, such as when they find substitutes. Even worse, bitcoin is only digital and we do know digital currencies can become worthless, whether it's the knock offs that go no where, or its predecessor in e-gold

considering right now tulip bulbs are worth around $0.30 (and have been for an extremely long time) and during the time of the bubble some were worth 5-10x as much as houses, it might as well be. Will you be saying "its not 0 yet" if/when bitcoin falls to $0.30?

completely delusional. But please, tell me all of the industrial uses for bitcoin as a "commodity". Surely if all else fails I can construct a house out of bitcoin, eat my bitcoins, or have them refined and smelted down into jewelry right?

I don't really get what you're trying to say? Something "useless" like flowers or digital collectibles have no value?

Evidently not. I assure you there are still people who earn a more than handsome salary on tulips.

As long as anyone is willing to buy something, there will be value in trading it.

BTC will hit near zero within two years. It has proven to be flawed technology with no real world uses. Everyone wants out, they're just hoping for one last bubble to cash out during.

>> No.11814416

I am saying there is no (or at least extremely little) intrinsic value in bitcoin and the "value" it has all stems from the hype around it. Just like every other bubble and crash in history.

>no one is willing to buy it at any price
doubt this will ever be the case. People will buy it as some kind of digital memorabilia if the price falls low enough. If that's the ultimate price equilibrium that's fine too.

Confederate money, after the civil war, had scarcity, just like bitcoin does, and it was also not backed by any particular good, just like bitcoin. After the war, the greyback became worthless, bitcoin may yet see the same fate.

> crypto goes up in price
"Hey guys, don't worry about a deflation trap or violent instability, crypto isn't a medium of exchange. It's a store of value. To the moon!"
> crypto goes down in price
"Hey guys, don't worry about the usd to btc conversion. 1btc=1bct! It's the currency of the future! Trustless transactions!"
> crypto craters
"Hey guys, it can't get any worse than this. Since when has a commodity gone to 0?"

Over the past few years crypto has apparently been: a currency, a store of value, and a commodity--whenever it's been convenient to be those things. So which one is it REALLY? And no take-backsies once the price flips again.

There's a reason that basic economics defines those three things differently, and we have different objects (gold, dollars, oil) to fulfill those roles. None of those existing things are perfect, but they do at least generally play their given roles.

Which role is bitcoin really supposed to be playing?

Bitcoin has never had a use. In 9 years nothing has come of it. It's all speculation. There will always be someone to "buy the dip", therefore it won't go to 0 in the sense that a company goes bankrupt
