Some places in those nations have definitely experienced down turns in home prices. I think Australia had the steepest devaluation in the Western world so far from what I remember. Don't worry, rate hikes will cause I a lot of people to give up homes they cannot afford with their mortgages . In Ch*na, there are literally riots in the street because a bunch of those retards bought at the peak and now their govt real estate agencies dropped the price by up to one-third since nobody is buying. The saving grace may be when people realize they paid less taxes, so 2019 might be slightly better than 2018 for homebuilders/mortgage lenders, but only if the Fed slows down otherwise there are way too many headwinds.

If you want to see where were at in the cycle, just look at the fund managers with the best long term records are doing. Dalio's Alpha fund has relatively low US equity exposure and wants nothing to do with Europe. Berkshire is sitting on a massive cash pile as they also were in 2007, same with Marks, Klarman, etc... Soros has SPY puts and low US equity exposure. Icahn is holding oil, utilities, insurers, and banks.

The holdings speak for themselves, these top performers are very defensive right now. They dont want European stocks at all, and have mostly defensive US stocks. They also have lots of cash/equivalents and commodity stocks (miners, oil). It seems inevitable that the Federal Reserve will have to crash the market to deal with massive inflation (this is mostly due to low unemployment). The only issue is that they werent willing to raise rates before debt grew to these obscene levels, not just in the USA but across the world. The worst violator being the European Union.

I like M1 Finance for their rational shares, as the name implies you buy only portions of a share, and they operate on a pie format so you allocated whatever % of your $50 to which ever company you want, added bonus is that you can still make a tiny amount of dividends as well. I'd suggest starting with a Roth IRA that way your money grows tax free (read more into it, as it's a long time commitment account) but that should help you get started.

The President would never put anything into any proposition for which there isn't at least 80% chance to pass it and The Congress needs to be 100% sure The White House goes along with it. You can in general flip votes in both chambers even 10 minutes before the vote. Many votes, many opportunities for lobbying. There is no way to flip the President. He will either veto or not veto the proposed bill. This is mostly as of today to get enough Republican Senators on the board to pass it to the House. Possible. We will see the first major indications of that in the next presidential election. Guaranteed at least one person in the primaries will run on federal legalization as part of their platform. My point. Once you legalize weed. How would that even look like? Once weed is legal you can buy it off the street. Legalizing only specific sellers is government controlled distribution. Why would you buy weed from a designated place if you can buy it cheaper and legal from some local guy who gets it below market price because Mexican cartels grow it in quantities that are 10 000 x larger than your US supplier. Also, pretty sure Mexican cartels will just overtake the legal production. This will effectively legalize a decent part of the Cartel income and that is why I don't see it going very well in conservative states and counties.
