Does your employer match your 401k?

Assuming private sector and not gubment?

Three options.

A- Live on 25% of your net, invest the rest into a typical index fund portfolio. Maybe 4 years because of your savings, depends on the market. Note: you will be living off the same amount post retirement.

B- Live on 25% of your net, save the rest. Invest in rentals or small business. Higher risk/return, requires skill.

C- Give up.

I got 15 yrs to go till I can retire from my job w/full benefits. Be 50 yrs old. Thank god.
Steps I've taken for my retirement:
401k (since 2005)
Pension
Savings: Currently at 15k w/2k + Tax refunds added for next 15 yrs.
Stock investments (just started)
Got bonds almost hitting the 30 yr mark. May roll over into a CD or cd ladder.

By the time I walk out in 15 yrs I should be in good shape, the only debt I have now is my house and 1k on a credit card. Car is paid for.
I may not be rich but I'll be well off enough to just kick back and enjoy life from 50 on.

Your plan assumes the stock market doesn't go down, your pension isn't bankrupt, and inflation doesn't make the bonds pointless.

If I was you and I didn't want to get married and have kids, I would unironically buy a van/truck and kit it out and live in that fulltime. Check out some vids on youtube it looks pretty comfy. As an aussie, I'd go up and down the coast and try visit lots of our thousands of beaches. God I wish I could be a van-dwelling neet living off the dividends of a 250k-300k porfolio (achieveable for you in 5 years) spending my life surfing, cooking, gymming and reading.

Live off 20k a year next 5 years, I. Eat every dime I get monthly into CHY. Enjoy monthly dividend money. At 5 years with what invested should clear close to 50k a year in dividend money.

What you described honestly sucks. I'm 29 and have finances better than you. Don't forget to account for healthcare costs.
