xmr devs explicitly say don't treat it like a speculative investment aka lottery ticket. this means they can and will actively do things that negatively affect the price for the greater good of the cryptocurrency. it just seems dumb to then go in expecting gains. it's a great currency, but don't expect anything else from it.
