It is exactly the hyped up vaporware which moons the hardest during a bull run. On the other hand, coins usually dump hard following mainnet release because then there is no escaping the cold hard reality that nobody is using this shit.

your best bet for alts is to wait until the bull run is close and then buy newly released alts. old alts are forgotten quickly, most of the hot alts of 2016-2017 are dead with no volume. the hot alts of 2017-2018 will end up exactly the same in 2-3 years.
